Speed Limiter

I was just wondering what speed the cut off is set for ? I got my 2007 base G5 up to about 180km/h the other day and I could have gone higher but there was some traffic up ahead !!! I used to have a 2000 Grand Am and the cut off on that was set at 180 km/h.

u know technically its illegal to tamper with the top speed of the vehicle, and plus u need to the speed ratings etc.. but i tihnk HPT will tune the 07's so someone with HPT in your area might be able to help u out, but i wouldnt do it, unless you showed betetr suspension, etc... really whats the point of going that fast, your not only ricking your life but others as well

I have read that on the base models its 108 MPH (174 KPH). This is with the base, cheap tires.

If you get the performance tires, it goes to like 120 MPH+ (194KPH +).

The G5 might have different base tires than the cobalt.

i just had my ls up to 110mph going to the meet.

but i cant help with speed limiter, as i have never looked it up. never thought id have it up that high till i really modded it.

and hpt dosent support 2.2s, no matter what year. ive already contacted them about it. they said they dont intend on supporting them anytime soon.

look at your tires

if you have continentals, your limits 108mph or 174 km/h.

if you dont its 120mph or 193 km/h

Hey guys, thanks for your help but I think some of u miss understood my question. I'm not trying to change or remove the speed limiter. I just want to know what it is set for. As for my tires, yes they are Continentals, but I got it up to about 180-183 km/h so I don't think the cut off is set at 174km/h.

Sounds like someone F'ed up. If you drive at 180 kph, you are risking a blowout, which would not be fun, or cheap. This is the reason that tires are speed rated.

been up to 246kph (153mph) then had to let off for traffic. I know it would do 250kph (155mph) but that is with GM Stage 2, AEM CAI, and PB 2.8" Pulley.

On the continental tires i would not touch the limiter. I am almost afraid to take it to 80 because these tires are not only thin i feel like it will throw a tread. But if you want to kill yourself you can just go around some of the tune shops in your area and beg them to help you out.

Please take notice that I said base model, which would be the LS and not the SS/SC. The SS/SC would drive like a brick if it was on the continental tires.
