You're running stage 2 cams and you're not tuned? I mean, you can get away with doing that to stg 1, but not 2.

Its not the tune thats the problem there.

Either the lifters collapsed or theres no tension on that chain and its out of time.

 

thats what i was thinking. the tensioner is set to 2 3/4" and the lifters were soaked in oil while they were outta the motor. the other car we did sounded the same but the sound went really quiet. the one guy i kno who builds race motors says his car sounds normal for a stage 2 cam 4 cylinder. but mine is a lot louder than his but his was loud like mine when we first did them

Pull the valve cover real quick and see if anything is destroyed and if not check lash between the rockers (followers) and cams. On those cams it should be very minimal.

Im using base circle regrinds that are stroking the lash adjusters about half a millimeter past their design limit and have minimal lash on those, yours preserved the base circle so you should still have stockish lash.

nothing is destroyed. the rockers and lifters/lash adjusters dont move at all. im leaving right now to go to erie for work til thursday nite (drivin my work truck) so when i get back we can talk bout it more and ill be able to explain better

 

Yeah Im actually on vacation this week without **** to do. The other guy I build these things with is as well. We both are pretty close to you (Im in Moon, hes in Forest Hills).

Are you using a mechanical chain tensioner?

Either way top end **** is easy, Im sure Wes and I can get it taken care of in no time. If anything is broken we have enough parts to replace pretty much anything that might have broke.

 

if needed, i do believe i have some 2.2 rockers somewhere

the tensioner in the back is what came from factory, i didnt make the one that is a bolt with a stop, yet, like the build book shows

my valves/springs/retainers/seats are supertech and the lifters/rockers are stock. i have all the stock parts also along with a few extras.

moon... i can get to cranberry off turnpike in bout 25 mins driving at like 70 (unless cranberry is mars) but if moon is out like toward the airport prob 45-50 mins and forest hills within 20-25 mins depending on redlights and traffic

I have the same top end with different cams as you do so I know that shouldn't be the problem.

I'm sure we can come out to you some time this week if the car isn't drivable, its not far form us.

You may have jumped a tooth on the chain, how did you set timing, did you preserve it with a cam gear holding tool or did you reset it with the front cover off and timed with the colored links?

 

yea, i said 2 3/4" because i read that in the book. the car is driveable but i know timing is off.

we kept it with a cam gear tool and were going to use a dial indicator and degree wheel but didnt have the time for all that

 

Which Supertech valve springs do you have? If it's the 78lb ones then they CAN NOT handle the lift of a stage two cams. The 78lb springs installed at the stock ecotec height can only handle .395 of lift and I think the stage two are something like .445. I don't know if that's your problem but I figured I would throw it out there for you.

What did you change when you tuned it? Do you have any CEL's?

I'm very interested in this thread as I am about to spend the money on some stg 2 cams here soon.

its a 2.2, vince at trifecta tuned it. no cel's but the poster above me had knock (stock valvetrain)

where did you hear of the valve spring lifts? that they can only handle .395 lift?

what lb ferrea valvesprings you running?

That isnt correct. The Supertech 78s can handle 13.9mm (0.547in).

 

who ever told you they can't handle more than what the stock lsj cams are is a moron.

i do not have ferrea anything in my car. supertech 78lb spring kit.
