I was thinking of straight piping my cobalt lt 2.2l, i was gonna do 2 1/4 in. But ive seen some recommend 2.5 in.
Im just going full bolt on, no sc or tc.

Right. Ive seen a solid 3 in for turbo.

But ive seen alot of 2.5 talk for bolt on.
Then 2.25 with talk of loss of back pressure

When you say straight pipe, are you meaning from the header back, cat back, or a muffler delete?

Regardless they're all going to sound raspy, you should stick with a nice 2.25 with a performance chambered muffler and long resonator. You'll probably like that better.

A resonator quiets it down some.
And I don't think it would be considered straight pipe if there's a resonator. I think straight pipe is no muffler no cat and no resonator.
Correct me if I'm wrong

if you run no muffler do NOOOOOTTTTTT cut the resonator or cat out. Taking either one will produce the worst sound humanly possible and your friends/neighbors will want to hang you.

if you want to run with no muffler, get a 4" wide 2.5" in/out magnaflow xl resonator/muffler and have it welded on in place of the stock muffler i did that to a mercury sable and it sounded like a G35!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDquWVfdrXg

I had no cat so there was a little rasp, i added a high flow cat later and it took it away.

Although for $160 you can just get a nice catback so its not really worth it.

n/a straight pipe = sounds like straight ass.

unless you're turbo you have 3 options.

catless with a resonator and muffler.
cat and resonator with a muffler delete
cat and muffler with a resonator delete.

whatever you do do not straight pipe it

straight pipe will sound like pure butthole and your neighbors will want to hang you.

theres no need for a straight pipe. at minimum get a resonater on it

If you're going to remove the muffler get the largest resonator possible, also advising against removing the cat, at least replace it with a high flow cat.
