The blower would be a lot easier for him to install, the price is pretty reasonable also. It will probably fit but you should do a lot of research to be sure, the cobalt/ion will probably get a specific one out pretty soon if they don't already.

Well, one difference is that cavaliers with the ecotec have the speed density set-up where it uses the MAP sensor to detect vacuum inside the motor. Now the cobalts have a MAF sensor, you would have to make some modifications to make it work with that as well.

the Hardware MIGHT work, but it would still be a bitch to figure it out. Not worth it IMO.

This is an OLD TOPIC. Please do a search before making new thread.

NO this supercharger WILL NOT WORK on the Cobalt.

The article in the build book is specifically for a J-body car.

The Cobalt uses a completely different fuel control system then the J-bodys, which is why the kit would not work. Additionally, some of the mounting hardware is different.

The Cobalt is getting its own kit, which has not yet been released.

i thought the build book was made around a cobalt and noted that most of the listed mods would also work on the j's...theres an easy way to find out for sure, call gm technical support.

the build book showed the cobalt but that was only for reference as in this is the car that now carries the ecotech 2.2L.

It is in the build book, but it does not fit the Cobalt. "GM Performance Parts has develop a bolt-on supercharger kit for the 2.2L Ecotec engine. Fits 2003-2005 model year Cavalier and Sunfire. Also fits certain 2002 Cavalier and Sunfire equipped with Delphi fuel inejectors (<I assume that to mean injectors...).

There is no need check for sure, we already know for sure. It is written right in the build book under the supercharger installation instructions that it applies only to j-bodies.

The 250-400 build section applies to Ecotec engines in general, so both j-bodies and Deltas.

You need to look again, it doesn't. They have a picture of a cobalt on one of the first few pages, which is what confuses everybody. The supercharger installation pictures are on a Cavalier Ecotec.

Yes and No.

They are both great power adders.

The SC is a much simpler install.

Depending on what the goals are, a SC could be just as good if not better.

I personally agree with you that a Turbo is the better power adder most of the time, but the SC always must be considered as it has some fantastic proerties as well.

Having said that, with some modifications to the header, will it work on the engine?

i think hes referring to the intake manifold, not the exhaust...i have heard the same thing on the gm SC, but i heard that its a pretty minor fix

Where Can i find the Ecotec 2.2 Handbook online....? If i can make the supercharger worked on the 2002 Ecotec engines for the Cavalier, i can recommend this to my friend for future decisions.

Also,...Would the tranny need to be changed on the sunfire/cavalier or can it stay automatic.....?
