Are there crank timing marks?

Are there any external timing marks on the crank pulley and the block? I am trying to setup my standalone ECU and need to be able to check my timing before I try to fire it up.

to check timing you need the valve cover off or your pissing in the wind. and to answer the question yes there are marks.

I have not taken this motor apart, so valvetrain is still timed to the crank.

Where are the marks on the block and pulley?

you have to take the timing cover off to see the timing mark. there should be a lil white dot on the carp under the timing over. turn it to 5 o clock and finish timing tha car and you should be fine.

you don't know what you are doing do you? to check timing you need to first find TDC. in order to find TDC you need to either use the screwdriver method and hope your guess is accurate or you can use the marks on the crank, intake cam and exhaust cam in which case you need to remove the valve cover. do as you wish with your ride.

I know what I am doing. Have you ever used a timing light on an engine? There is usually a mark on the crank and a pointer for TDC. Thats what I was asking for, not for the marks to set the timing on the int, and exh cams.

yes there's a timing mark on it. You need to take the crank pulley off and the timing cover to see it on the crank sprocket

ok I read further since you never had your motor apart do this. there should be a blue and red timing mark on a chain link. Go down and spin your crank until you can see them both a intake at 2 o clock and the exhaust at 10 o clock and count the links in between. Since your motor is still stock it should be timed correctly already or you would hear horrible valvetrain tapping

Think most of the guys here don't really understand what you're asking... ;-)

Not sure if there is a "BDP timing mark" on the ecotec pulleys, so best to make one yourself with a reference pointer. (Put engine exactly in BDP position by screwdriver/plug method or as said by using the internal cam timing marks.)
Maybe you can use the crank trigger wheel for reference (remove crank sensor), but think the missing tooth is 117° (??) off TDC. (edit 117° is LSJ I think, not sure on the 7-1 wheel on L61)

There is a timing mark. There is a notch on the Crank Pulley, on the inner wall(meaning closest to the block), and there is also a notch on the block itself. Just turn the pulley and line the 2 marks up and you are at TDC.

HINT: Take the passenger front wheel off, and look up at the crank pulley from the wheel well and you will see the notch on the crank pulley. You may need to squeeze your head up there to see the notch on the block because its around the 10/11 oclock position if i remember correctly.

Why is everyones answers so complicated and demeaning?
