tranny swap
Alright guys I know im gonna catch abunch of **** over this but I don't really care. I want to do it.
one of my good friends owns a shop (like a legit shop.lol not tire and lube) and if i cant get it done for free then it wont cost much money.
Im planning on pulling a tranny out of a low mileage cobalt this would be best because i could take it out and all the other parts i need, rather than ordering the parts and having to guess about all the little stuff.
If that doesnt work then ill just buy a new tranny.
I've heard abunch of stuff about mounting points and stuff like that and really i just need to know if there is anything special im going to have to get made or will it just bolt right up. i dont think this will be the case since everything is pushed forward on the auto.
any help will be appreciated. i want to know what problems im going to run into before i take on this project.
thanks guys.

Auto to manual I am guessing?
You will need a trans, axles, trans mounts, engine mounts, wire harness, pcm, clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, tob, master cylinder, clutch pedal assembly. Trust me this isn't as easy as you think

EDIT: What the hell is a "tob"
2nd EDIT: Also, if it all came from another 07 cobalt could i use that pcm?
What axles will i need? im guessing since you said ill need engine mounts and trans mounts that the engine and new transmission will have new mounting points. if i were pulling this from another cobalt couldnt i just pull all that stuff out of it. if thats the case then it would seem the hardest thing would be remounting everything.

If so, it's a LOT of work, but I applaud someone going for it. Axles would be for a Getrag F23 transmission, Since that's the manual 2.2 and 2.4L Cobalts/Ions/HHR's/G5's came with. 2.0L's came with a Saab F35 that has proven somewhat problematic.

i could probably get close to ten out of my car, so i wouldnt owe much but i cant do it.
so this is the next best thing for me.
however i have decided that if i cant find a 07 cobalt to take everything out of then i probably wont do it.
I cant. I found a 08 stock black ss/tc with only 50,000 miles the price was 13,500

He forgot, a shifter, shifter cables, a clutch cable, clutch line, shift boot, maybe a center console (no idea if they are different) It's a lot of work but hey people do it to civics all the time. Go for it. Your best bet is gonna be to buy an 07 with rear damage. If you have both cars next to each other you'll have all you need.

I beg to differ. My car is a lt2 with 40,372 miles and in excellent condition. now is it really worth 10? nah not really but with all the things in my sig were gonna go with it. two of my friends offered to buy it for 10 when i was seriously about to get the ss/tc i was previously talking about. see they know my car has been tooken care of and not rode hard and put up wet. you always take a chance when you buy a used car so it makes all the difference when they know ive always taken good care of it. but aside from all that 40,xxx miles for a 07 is pretty damn good.
anyways, know one has answered this question directly.
"If I take everything out of a 07 balt can I use the pcm from that car since they are the same year?"
or would I have to get it tuned?
