Tranny Swap

If I was to (hypothetically speaking) want to swap my auto tranny for a manual one, what kind of financial and physical investment would it take? does it just swap right out or is the cars set up completely different? thanks for the help

Hypothetically it would be way too much effort and $$. The auto tranny is a good one; its actually rated for more power than the manual one. Fun factor however...

I contemplated the same thing with my old sunfire...it's not worth it if you're trying to do it for power.

Need Transmission, Manual Computer, Take out the TCM, Need shift linkage, Need center console and assembly, need to install a clutch pedal, install clutch lines and resevoir

There is more to it but it's just not worth it for the little gain that you'll acheive.

What im asking, besides the cost of course, is if its as simple as removing the auto tranny and then installing a manual one, (i.e. the manual bolts up as it would normally with no additional fabrication or work to convert it.)

edit: I take that back, thanks for the answer.

I was trying to get a worst case senario for if I really wanted F/I (not N20), and there was never a tuning solution.
