Tune after cams!?!?!

Hey guys I am sorry for this question if it is retarded, but do I need to do a tune after installing my cams? I installed them on friday and my car wont idle worth a **** it just bounces from 500-1000 and my exhuast makes a popping sound. My mechanic told me I burned the exhuast valves, but I have been reading and it sounds like this is normal once you put cams in.

Thanks inadvance,
Josh

what research did you do before installing these? there are numerous topics on this issue...

specifically a 10 page thread on cams on this same page

sometimes you can throw cams in a N/A car and it will be alright but you should REALLY get it tuned.

youll def. need some work on your idle tables a quick fix would be to raise it higher especially for the intial tuning.

The idle should not be bouncing, unless you got an agressive cam. If you got an agressive cam, you will need tuning. With mild cams, you don't need a tune but a tune would bring out the cams full potential.

Could the timing might be off? timing chain not installed on the right tooth?

I am pretty sure the timing is off. But how can you set it back to the proper timing?

the timing is not off. Call vince and order a tune. he need to change the base running airflow chart so the throttle body blade opens more for the air requirement the engine needs now. you would know in a heart beat if the timing was off in these engines

do you have the stage 1's or 2's either or you still need a tune. mine runs great now sounds so bad ass

It is always good to get a tune after you get cams. Comp cams stage 1 would be the only set you wouldn't "need" a tune.

If your timing were off you would cause serious damage costing lots of $$$
You can run stage 1 without a tune but be prepared to chip a tooth cause it shakes, stalls, idles rough and the engine dies as you come to a stop. I got a C.E.L. within 10 minutes of driving it without a tune.
Get the trifecta tune and you will be happy. I only ran my STG1 without tune for 3 days and that was enough for me.

Agreed

See the throttle blade needs to be open more w/ cam upgrades. and you can't change that unless you get a tune . Cause of the throttle body being electric that is what causes the car to stall and idle like ****, being closed to much. see the computer in the car sees that it needs more air than stock. so then the ECM raises the RPM's and then the computer sees that the RPM's are to high over normal idle, and it goes back down. that is the jumpiness that you experience. and it yo-yo's constantly but once you get moving it is ok until time to come to a stop or you take your foot off the pedal, throttle blade closes and it stalls
