Nope, it won't. The Cobalt is a Delta platform car and the Cav's and Sunfires where J-bodies. Different design. Just buy one that is designed for the Cobalt, there are several.

It will physically fit and control the cables properly, but you dont the reverse lockout mechanism it has and A: I cant remember if its removable B: if you leave it on you need to make a few slight mods so it doesnt hit the shift boot retainer or consolde supports.

Just find a Cobalt one, its not like that one is reallt cheap or anything

It does fit there halfcent. I have a cavalier STS installed in my car. Fits 100% and works like a charm.

it may in theory and may work for life but it wasnt designed for the cobalt. im sure we could go all day talking about the similiarities but i wouldnt but a part for my car for the same price if not more then what a part FOR my car costs. some parts are more interchangeable then othere but i wouldnt trust a shifter. different shift boot styles and center council i mean you never know. cobalt shifters on ebay are like 100 bones. with a shift knob

It'll work but get a cheaper one from ebay, just make sure it comes with a knob. Read my thread on this https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/drivetrain-79/will-cosmo-racing-cavalier-short-shifter-fit-2-2-2-4-a-69028/
