yellows found a stronger trans

so i found a stronger trans but im not sure what all involved to make it work. in my moms isuzu amegio she has a 2.2 ecotec motor rwd with a 60 degree bolt patern on the back so that means you can use the 3.1 trans out of a Z24 and we all know how much stronger they are and how heavy they are so there the stronger trans but you have to change your block and if you were going to do that then you might as well build the engine. btw there is a cheaper way to make a cobalt rwd and still have a 2.2 eco in there i all so have a bellhousing for the 2.2 eco to bolt to a T-5 trans that came off the eco. but thats the 60 deg. bellhousing probly have to make new mouting locations for the trans but the engine block looked the same except the bolt housing just a thought what do yall think i know it would be much more in exspense to do this but it would be a reliable engine and trans.

that's alot of work to change something that is already working pretty good. Unless you're shooting for super high #s I wouldn't reccommend it.

Although if you were going to do it, I'd say make a mounting plate with the stock ecotec bolt pattern on one side and the t-5 trans bolt pattern on the other. That mounting plate is gonna have to be pretty dam strong though. Check out victoryredss's thread and see what he did for his rwd conversion

really with all the money and work you're going to put into that, you might as well spend the money to really work over the stock manual trans. If you could find someone to cryo-treat your stock trans that would make it stronger overall.

i've not seen the stock trans on any cobalt to be the weak link.

not for nothing, i just don't see what you hope to gain here.

not be a weak link.... **** we've had 4 blown tranny's just by me (within 15 miles). I know mine definitely won't be holding out too much longer on my new setup

then you havent been reading enough threads

axle snapping is one of the biggest concerns of stg2 ss s/c owners, and a big reason why most dont run slicks

i dont need to make a bellhousing for the 2.2 eco to a t-5 there is one all ready thats in the isuzu from factory ive replace it on my moms truck.

besides in order to use a 3.1 cavy trans 5 speed you have to use the 2.2 ecotec block thats for Rwd it has the gm 60deg. bellhousing made in to the block the tans is still mounting in the same place. will have to modify the bracket and then make a new bracket for the tail of it. but if i did all that. then why not just do a hole 3.1 engine trans h frame swap i know it would fit.

Really the biggest problem I've seen with the f35s is the roll pin in the shifter assymbly snapping. But then we're not really talking about the f35 either.

It's really hard to tell at this point where our m/t stands with high powered reliability. There's not enough strong 2.2 balts running around.

Personally I find all these things yellowshowbalt is talking about doing a little far fetched on a decently new car. There's alot of time and money involved in doing some of this and can't help but think there's more efficient ways of solving his problems.

If you really wanted to drop a v6 in there, I'd suggest taking a look at the g6 platform. I'm sure it wouldn't be too much trouble to fit that powerplant and trans into our cobalts.

thats the wrong idea here. i as just saying there is a 3.1 trans that will bolt up to the 2.2 eco but its the amigo 2.2 that u have to use. the best way and cheapest was is just put another stock trans in there and sell the weak piece of ****. but if theres a chance that all my internals from my build 2.2 will go straight in the amigo block then im leaning to go that way. all i have to do is machine the block and in done. my other engie is on a stand waiting. besides a much stronger trans and stronger axles and a great engine "imo" 2.2 eco plus im SC = great times at the strip. and teror to all on the street it would be great.
