Ebay Intakes
Ebay Intakes
Is it just me or does it seem a bit rediculous to fork over $250 or so for 1-3hp for an intake?
I've been lurking e-bay for a week or two now, they've got a ton of 2.0 intakes but no ebay intakes for 2.2 2.4's. My questions is, does anyone have one on there 2.2, how was the fitment, any cel's?
My other question is, do 05-08 2.2/2.4 intakes work with our cars?
thanks.

the difference is really with the quality.
there have been tons of people coming on here showing pictures of shitty weld jobs and/ or jagged metal shavings inside the tubes.
its like the old saying you get what you pay for. K&N and Injen are both tested extensively to ensure proper fitment and that they won't cause any problems. "eBay" intakes are tested only to see if they fit. not how it will make the car run.
Injen is one of the best ones out there because it has a tuned TB funnel which maintains the proper air fuel ratio instead of just running a 3" pipe to the TB like the K&N does.
it all comes down to the question: are you willing to put a 100$ intake on a car that you spend like 15k on?
and a saying that always comes to mind when people post these threads, and not use the search button....... Is you get what you pay for.

The shitty ebay intake on my SC made me get a CEL and stumble and become essentially not drivable. Pile of ****, I pulled it off and did the airbox mod and it is fine. Decided after that that I am done with intakes
were they smoking some crack or something?
i know damn well that i wouldnt see 7whp but it should be at least on par with any other.
I am thinking about modifying my stock airbox instead of doing an intake.
First, I want to do the silencer delete, then get a length of hose and route from the airbox intake to down behind the bumper to get cool, fresh air in.
Next, I want to remove the accordian hose and replace it with a smooth silicone piece.
Then, I want to get a small length of metal pipe and epoxy it into the stock airbox and use an AEM generic DryFlo cone filter in my airbox.
What do you all think? Feasable?

Well to be honest my car came from the dealership with a "ebay" intake and it works fine. The only reason Im replacing it is that I got a awesome deal on another CAI. If your wanting something cheap and give you that sound then ebay will be fine. Just make sure you inspect the intake before installing for any loose metal particles inside the tube.
Before you do the ebay **** and spend the money, go to Autozone or something and get a universal filter with the adapter rings for like $20, it is the same thing the ebay crap comes with. Take your lower plate off of the stock intake, pull the stock filter off and put the new one on with the ring that fits. Dont replace the lower plate, and you are money! You get the sound and the airflow without CELs. Save the money unless you NEED the polished tube under the hood

Majority of people gets an intake just for the sound. When you buy an intake yes it gives you some power but don't expect a ton of hp from just an intake. When you mod you have to start somewhere and intake tends to be the easiest. Also yea you may not see but 6hp out of the intake but just think how much it will help you once you do heavy modding to your car. Besides it gives you better MPG
oksy, i had an ebay intake on my 2.4
worked okay, but the fit and finish were subpar. and, the filter itself was... second rate.
that said, for the 60 bucks that it was, it worked okay.
but, i never regretted swapping out for the K&N
