keep vvt or cam it out?

Hey guys, I've really been thinking, is vvt really worth it for the limited amount of cams available? I'm wondering if perhaps cams, locking out vvt, would net me a little more power? Anyone else have thoughts on this one?

09 really doesnt have any compatible cams....so VVT will still help you

get fully bolted and tuned...then think about other things

Really with VVT it is pointless to get aftermarket cams. If you can get a tune you can adjust the cam timing however you want.

and by "other things" you should probably go buy a car that is not an economy car and do a performance build on that instead of wasting your money on the cobalt

JMHO But the pro racers all use non VVT and cams. They also run distributors. But they also run mile wide tires. The function of VVT AND COP (COIL ON PLUG), as I understand it, is to control torque along with many other parameters to optimize fuel mileage on the bottom of the performance ladder and wheelspin on the top of the same ladder. VVT allows the engine to be more efficient in all environments. It creats a trade off. Disabling VVT and running higher performance cams would almost certainly increase performance but would tie you to a gas pump. You can NEVER have the BEST of all worlds in the performance world. The beauty of the LNF is that it is the closest you can get to the best in the automotive world.
Again. JMHO!

And as far as distributor vs COP. Ecotec high performance guys switch to distributor, but 4G63 guys swap for COP with power.

Each system work perfectly fine, you just need to make sure you have a quality system. AKA stock will not work for high performance power.
I've been out of the loop for a while. What is "4G63"?

doing cams and losing vvt is as easy as a l61/lsj head swap zzp used a lnf block for their lsj due to the gen 2 having a stronger block just like the lap has the gen 2 block

vvt is a good system, however, we are kind of limited on power gains due to the camshafts... they can only go so far. jbp tried making cams for the 2.4 but those were major fail. our only option is swap the 2.4 cams in hope we pick up a couple more hp.
