Is there a noticeable difference from an '08 to '09 2.2L?

funny u guys mention how "peppy" or "quick" this car feels
i got beat by a stock base civic - both from a 40 roll and a dig

if he had 10mph on the other guy, then he let off.. the 2.4ss/na auto would still beat a 2.2 5speed with cai, albeit VERY close, not 10mph faster @ 90

I remember my 2.2 being pretty fast for a stock engine, I was always beating civics with maybe a CAI in them and ppl with cavis and cobalt ls's would tell me the same thing. But i can't go back, not after turbo

I never understood this either.. MY o6 untuned goes to 6500. My dad has an 08 and my mom has an 09 so Ill try both when I get a chance (stock of course)

im not sure if it was 10 mph i just know it was at least 5 because once i started pulling on him he was getting further away at a decent pace then he let off. i didnt let off until he let off. from the point we let off i was probly beating him by 10-15 ft

10-15 feet is not a 5 mph difference...

I think this is just a case of people know knowing much about drag racing.... 5 mph doesn't sound like anything at all but it's a decent amount.

it wasnt the distance that made me say 5 mph it was the rate that i was passing him. from a stop i started out losing to him for a few seconds but i caught up n passed him. they were close races tho

I had an 11 sec GTO and a 11 sec GTP it obviously is nothing like that but my 09 coupe has no factory options and is a manual and it rolls out pretty good i would say a solid mid 15's pretty easy down low like you sayd its a little laggy then when you start climbing the rpms it jus gets alot better. Overall i'm pleased with the 09's performance for it being a 2.2 cobalt i've driven alot worse (most being v6's). i raced my buddy's 14.2 second gtp and i lost by around 2-3 cars at 90 or so

I was afraid of that. *kidding*

Okay, back to the top,
has anyone driven a new 2.2L motor and noticed a difference in the powerband between other 2.2L tunings? (between other model years)
I hear that the XFE's feel slow to some people...

*I'm trying to figure out if a 2009 would disappoint me or not...
so if it feels noticeably less responsive under 4000 rpm and/or doesn't feel like it picks up very much past 4000 rpm.
I have an XFE and I think all it is, is some different tires and different gear ratios..

Layman's terms? Which is better? I would assume the F23, right?

My trans still says F23 on it, though.

Standard F23 gearing is shorter, meaning more torque and less time waiting to get to the power band. This is usually what you want
Both transmissions are F23's...they just have a different final drive ratio.

Must be minor because I can not honestly even tell the difference.

did he just leave it in drive or something? I havent had an issue yet with a 2.2 5spd or auto cobalt. And im pretty damn stock lol. Then again the 08s seem to be a bit stronger. Im every bit of a 15.5 car if not 15.3 or so (just what ive experianced from running some of my local honda buddies).

I'm just saying the difference is minor because I've drove a regular LS and it feels the same.
