2.2 to 2.4 swap

Is there a detailed write up of info needed to swap a 2008 LS with 2.2 and 5spd over to a LE5? I know the ecu and harness would prolly have to swap. I wonder about the BCM? Would the 2.2 BCM still work with the 2.4 ECU? I wanna build me a stout 2.4 and boost the hell out of it and ditch the dinky 2.2. Help appreciated.

you'd be way further ahead to trade/sell and get a 2.4, if can be done, but it'll probably cost some serious coin to do it. Money that you wouldn't even need to spend if you upgraded and started with a 2.4.

Rough estimate....ur lookin at damn close to 7-8k for a swap like that. You'd need wiring harnesses, engine, trans, computers, and who knows how many tiny little expensive overlooked parts. Trade in the cobalt you have for a 2.4 or go with a tc and save urself the headache

Damn....I forget I'm not working with a Honda. I figured it would have been a fairly straight forward swap. Engine mounts and trans should be the same between the 2.2 to 2.4 right? I figured the only things different would be the harness, ecu/bcm. I like the 2.4 because it has a stronger block design than the 2.2. Also, there's the small issue of tuning. I don't know of ANY stand alone tuning solution short of LS2edit. Can a 2.2 take 350whp with forged rods/pistons? If so, then I may just boost it and keep it as is with supporting mods of course.

yes man. the 2.2s have been out since the cavy had it. u can build them up way easier than a 2.4 cuz there's a plethora of parts. build the 2.2 trifecta can tune u as well. idk where victoria is but im a trifecta dealer in san antonio. i think ur wut an hr or 2 away?

if you get new rods and pistons and valves and springs too i could maybe see 350 fwhp. but keep in mind that that's a ridiculous amount of power for a FWD car. you won't be having much fun. lol.

Plenty of TC owners are making 350+ whp and are having loads of fun with them, what would make this car any different? I mean, I know a built short block is in order, but what tuning is there besides Trifecta (one time dyno tune, dealer done) or LS2edit (custom self/dyno tune, no idea what parameters are available)? I can't believe HPTuners or EFILive doesn't have any support for these cars as many of them are out there.

i hope you do realize that the ss/tc's have a completely different suspension setup and tuning than do any other cobalt.

talk to someone with stock suspension bits on his LSJ making 350 fwhp and ask him how much fun it is to go WOT at a light. or how many axles he's had to replace.

the TC WOT at a lught is no fun either.

if your gonna build a car build it right. i would suggest buying a 2.4 to start if that what you really want or even a SS/SC with a blown motor of body damage and build a car from there. i dont see why you would want to molest a fairly new 2.2 LS. if its low milage sell it or trade it towards another car. you can pick u p used TC's for 17-19K AND SC's for 10K. good luck with oyur decision. thats my .02

just get the zzp twin charge for your 2.2 i really dont get the .2 increase. You guys are always telling people to trade it in and its not worth it. How about i payed 14.5 for my car and after i drop 6k its going to cost me a total of 20 thousand. MSRP on a new coupe SS 09 is 23,425 so i spent less money and got a faster car. Please note most of you buy your cobalts and get tunes, downpipes, exhaust so god only knows how much you are really spending in the end.

ZZP's twinchage kit is for the LSJ not the LAP. I would imagine there would be some fitment issues.

The reason we tell people to trade up is because this isn't a honda you can't just swap in another engine for 3-5K. You'll end up spending more than if you were to buy a SS/NA/Sport or SS/SC used.

There is no reason to get a 2.4 over a 2.2, at all.

Keep your 2.2 and take advantage of it's modability, or trade in for a 2.4.

Engine swaps are usually a terrible idea. (car value, true cool factor, extensive problems, etc)

Fixed. Bit of a difference between those 2 statements.
