Yeah maybe the head gasket started to go or something I dunno. I'll take more pics when I finally get it out. Did you pull your motor from the top or drop it out the bottom??? I'm thinking I'm just going to take it out the top. Oh and do you guys think my turbo could have any potential problems with coolant/oil entering into it??? Is there a way to flush the turbo or do you think I'll be find just draining it when I take it off.

Not sure about the oil cooler fittings.

But beside that all the 2.4s are interchangable. Will just need to swap your stuff onto them. However you might want to steer clear of 08 2.4s. If you have an oil cooler then try to get one with an oil cooler or vice versa just to make it easier if nothing else.

i pray you get lucky and find out it's only the head gasket. just had to replace mine over the weekend. had a lot of fun putting the engine back together and getting that heavy ass s256 back on.

p.s. on a side note. i was able to slide the head back in place over the arp headstuds with the turbo manifold bolted onto the head. this made life a lot easier as there is only one tool that will let you get the top nuts on the turbo manifold (13mm open end wrench) and it's a total bitch to do with the head on the engine in the car.

There is no way it is just the head gasket look at the picture of the spark plug I took out. Its crushed, defiantly something loose in there.

Oh really, it looks like something was smashing into it so I assumed something had to be loose.

Do you think the turbo could have problems seeing that coolant and oil were running through it??

Milky oil definitely means u have a blown head gasket sir. I work at a shop that gets a ton of blown head gaskets. If u decide to just do the gasket make sure u have your head resurfaced at a machine shop. Also replace your thermostat while you have your coolant hoses off. Just for insurance.

Thanks guys, I was hoping the turbo would be fine. Any opinion on taking the engine out the top or drop the subframe through the bottom. If i pull it out the top I still have to basically unbolt everything needed to take the subframe out seeing the axles need pulled.

I wonder how the prong on that plug was smashed in like that? How can the piston do that?

if you're a 5 speed, and i'm guessing you are, it's gotta be done through the subframe.
on the auto it can be taken out through either the subframe or the top.
I suggest pulling the head and checking the situation out before you pull the whole motor.

pure in simple physical force. it can happen through direct contact with the piston or by the shockwave generated by a detonation. given the receased position of the spark plug in the head. the piston seems highly unlikely as the culprit.

So I can't pull the motor through the top seeing that I am a 5 speed. So dropping it out the bottom how do I go about doing that?? Put the car on jack stands and pull the axles, then undo all the engine mounts and lower the subframe (with engine and tranny on it) onto some type of rollers. Or can I leave the axles attached and undo the top strut mounts and drop the wheels, axles, subframe, motor, and trans??? I just put a clutch in so pulling the subframe isn't my problem I'm just confused on how to go about either pulling or dropping the motor.

Hey man, im Spanky's buddy, heres my input. Pulling the motor out the top is a huge pain in the ass. To pull the motor from the bottom you need to disconnect the ball joint, tie rod end, and pull the axle out of the spindle. Remove the 3/4" hoses that run to the fire wall, and disconnect the ac line. Its possible with a jack and 2 jack stands. Im gonna post a link to a site which has the entire how to. Just be patient and careful and make sure you disconnect and label all wires/harnesses.

Here chapter 2 is the one you want.

You don't have to disconnect the ball joints or tie rods take off the calipers zip tie em to the strut disconnect the steering shaft easiest way

Update: Today I pulled the intake manifold and just from that I can tell that this is more than a head gasket. There was oil/coolant laying in the manifold along with I'd say at least 50 small pieces of metal chunks. How they ended up in the intake manifold I don't really know. The charge pipe is clean and the water/air box was also clean. After this I got nervous that my turbo had chunks go through it. Well I pulled it and it looks clean and blades looked great, like it has been barely used. There was some oil/coolant in the exhaust side but that was expected. I have a lot of the small stuff off just need to finish up and drop it. For the a/c condenser I think I can just zip tie it out of the way, at least that's what we are going to try to do first.
