2.4 SS at the track
2.4 SS at the track
Well it was 29C with 100% humidity at the track for the first run ever in my cobalt ss 2.4, which is 100% stock, as stock as you can get.
So what does hot temps, 100% humidity and a 230lb driver with only 2 weeks of experience with 5 speed get you?
a 16.124 @ 87.40 Mph
Full time slip is:
R/T : .726 (i know i know)
60': 2.371
330: 6.814
1/8: 10.445
mph: 67.80
1000: 13.540
1/4: 16.124
MPH: 87.40
My first and worst run of the night was a 17.6 when i missed 3rd gear lol. But im hoping for mid 15's once i get more experience driving 5 speed and a less humid day. Example is a guy i talked to that is a regular at the track had a camaro that ran a consistent 14 flat and he was in the mid to high 14's all day.
So opinions?

I know the track (Mission Raceway Park), I've driven it a few hundred passes in various different vehicles. When conditions are ideal, it is a great track! Very low elevation. I definitely think you can improve on your times with better weather. Don't worry about the reaction time if you're concentrating on getting the best ET......it will just screw you up, and it doesn't matter anyway because the clock starts when you cross the beam. Considering the conditions and it being your first time at the track, I'd say you did just fine. Any planned mods for the car?

For the mods, im going to wait until i pay off the car and move out before i put any money into it. At the moment im in a big battle with the dealership to fix my paint on the car, over half the car has paint damage thats only visible with just washed and under the sun but when its under those conditions it looks terrible. So unfortunately if im going to put money into it anytime soon, it will be to fix the paint if the dealership isnt going too.
BUT after all of that im going to look into some better tires, intake and exhuast. Then slowly add to it overtime. If after a few years i decide im going to keep it for a long time i'll invest into a turbo kit.
according to the weather that morning it said 25c with 50% humidity but that all changed later on, at one point it hit 32c lol

I was planning on going though(2.4 Auto) but I left the shield(plastic bag ftw) on my intake after cleaning and collapsed the filter, so was afraid to run it hard
Yea let me know when you plan to go next and i see if i can make it down there, we line our cars up if i feel up to racing
Last night the gf had a party for her bday and it was 33c all day until 8:30, it was crazy lol

Question about the 5-speed equipped 2.4s -- Do you have the dreaded lag before 4K like the automatic cars do -- like your engine performance switches-on at 4K RPM?
I got rid of the lag with the Jet chip Stage 1 Performance module in my auto 2.4.

I think they run into October and the heat wave is apparently going to die off later in the week. I'm SS/SC shopping atm, so I can't have word get out that I race the poor thing when I'm at the dealer trying to trade in
I'd be interested in that as well, my car's lag got a little better with the intake, but it still feels like I'm launching dragging a boat behind me or something

Also, when I installed the GMPP intake on my 06 LS I could hear the intake howl on the 2.2 -- I didn't hear that howl with my 2.4L after installing the GMPP intake.

Theres an SS/SC at a ford dealership in abotsford, asking $17,900 for it, fully loaded

I wanted that one but they didnt want my jeep for a trade unfortunately lol
Yes they do. When my ECM was stock, there was quite a power increase right after 4000 rpm. When Vector tuned my ECM, there is no more lag.
in order to eliminate this delay of power do i need get a higher octance tune? being that i already pay more then $5 a gallon i dont want to go higher then 91 octane lol
Its in the owners manuel that a stock 2.4 should run 91 or higher octane anyways. I know all that cars I tune I highly recomend 93 octane. Becasue of the added timeing and other chenges made in the tune.
15.1 at 93.8 mph with just suspension work. Alt. really hates out motors. but get some practice and you will be well in to the 15s. Also don't shift out of 3rd until you cross the finish line.
you just tell whoever tunes you what octane you want to run,
and on the day you get tuned, make sure you have that fuel in the tank....
and away you go.
