Anyone tuned to run...
Has anyone here re mapped their 2.4L computer to run E85? I have heard good things about running E85 in performance cars, burns cooler than gasoline, has a higher octane rating (about 105) etc. opinions?
imo e85 is not a worthy sustainable alternative fuel, but i'm sure it would make a fine race fuel.
It would be easy to tune for it. I would if it was available here.
It has less energy per volume, therefore you will actually be losing power.
And yes... it will actually over time corrode unprotected aluminum parts within your engine.
Guess our heads wouldn't like that much.
Really I shouldn't make such a big deal of it... cause anyone running meth injection is doing the same thing (methanol is also corrosive).
The only difference is that with meth injection your only pumping in about 10% as much, cause it's not the primary fuel, and isn't always being sprayed.
You'll wear valve guides and seals before you'll wear alluminum in the head from ethanol.
Between the price and the octane you can't beat it for a performance car. After I get the TVS installed in the next few days, I'm going to see how much overhead I have left with the injectors and fuel pumps and end up running e85 hopefully on my LSJ.

On a 6.6 Duramax that we (SRC) converted to dual fuel ethanol / diesel, we had the intake plenum corrode though in about 14 months..... nasty stuff.
I would do it right this second but I have to watch and see what this new blower is going to do to my stock and supplemental fuel pump and 79lb/hr injectors first.
