cooling issues

ok so this morning i defrosted the turned my ac on and i wouldn't get cold. well i got to work and the ac was of and all buttons were off and the fan was still running and i scrolled threw my dash to coolant temp and there was nothing it said temp and then 3 dashes i have no clue someone can tell what is going on

ok did it again everytime i put my defrost on this happens would this possibly be a problem with the thermostat anyone know out there that can help me

Hey read through this thread on the HHR forum. Sounds like your having the same issue.

Coolant temp sensor - Chevy HHR Network

Replacing the thermostat is very easy as well. You can do it in about 30-40 minutes.

ok so where on a 2.4 is the thermostat located and how hard is it to get to anyone got a pic or a how to on this

would the thermostat cause the car to run bad slowed throttle response poor gas mileage

cool thanks hhrfreak i really appreciate it didn't know what the he** was going on but im still stuck on my gas mileage and loss of throttle response

If your engine is not warming up to normal operating temp then the gas mileage would be off. It is likely the thermostat could be the whole issue. I had a Cavalier and when the thermostat went bad the coolant temp was very low and the gas mileage was terrible though I don't recall bad throttle response, but that car was not drive by wire like ours.

Mine is electonic tb no by wire but well see got the thermostat gonna do it this weekend what is the best coolant and best additive

Wait...I think you have it backwards. Drive-by-wire is electronic. "wire meaning electronic signal" Typically an older design would be cable actuated.

I have always used Prestone coolant. Couldn't tell you why either. If your worried just get GM coolant. What additives?
