dyno ?s

ok so about 4-5 months ago i dyno'd my car on a DYNOCOM dyno my mods were:

K&N typhoon intake
ZZP midlength combo w/ 1.5" primaries and 2.5" catless
Flowmaster 40 series

i put down 164whp

this past sat i dyno'd again with a on a DYNOJET dyno couple changes:

K&N typhoon intake
ZZP combo
Stock muffler
Trifecta tuned

i put down 155whp

now my question is, aren't dynojets supposed to read higher USUALLY? now there were a few other cars that dyno'd and were way lower but we also found out that they do not havw the ebby brakes for turbo'd cars to load the dyno. so the ss/tc that dyno's put down horrible numbers. we also had a TVS ss/sc dyno and he put down way lower as well. noth of these cars put at least 40whp above what they were at and they added a couple things since their other dyno numbers.

is there something the shop is doing wrong with the dyno besides the brakes? they usually do V8 vehicles and there was a G8 GT that was with us and he did pretty well, he put down 433whp which is ~20whp more then what he put on the DYNOCOM.

they just got the dyno about 3 months ago, are there settings to change or anything like that. i know the SAE smoothing was at a 5 for anyone that knows what that is.

If u weren't tuned for the mods then there is #1 and if you all loose power after the tune then look at tune or the dyno.

It's been a debate that Dynocom's are a lil "happy" compared to other dyno's. If you google Dynocom dyno comparison you will see some threads showing the same car making MUCH better numbers on the dynocom.

We planned on trying to hit one just to compare. We ran Matt (wanted's) SSTC with the same exact tune and parts on 2 different Dynojet's with almost exactly the same readouts. So we want to take his car to a Dynocom and see what it puts down there, there is one in PA too

I think there was something wrong with that dyno since you did mention other cars dynoed lower as well. Also since you went back to your stock exhaust that would also make your numbers go down some. I would say you should be in the 160's atleast and with a catback exhaust be in the low 170's no problem.

If you ramp up the MAL a lil slower it stops the slip as well as the spike then dip I see on most cars.

The most spike I see when I tune is around 1-2 pounds from what I command. The clutch in one car just granaded and the other clutch at high rpm with max boost it just slips bad. I progressivley have boost come in not just at once.....

i am tuned for all my mods except the flowmaster is what i was tuned for and i put the stock muffler back on without changing the tune. which IMO i dont think should make a difference. i am trifecta tuned.

there was a g8 GT that was with us and he dyno'd higher on this dynojet.

but another weird thing is that there was a 05-07 2.2 sedan with a custom intake and tsudo 2.25" catback and no other mods and NO tune and he put down 140whp. how am i only putting down 15whp more?

im thinking tune...

oh and my torque was only 140ft/lbs to the wheels.

but i do have a really nice curve, all the way up to 6500

i had mine dyno tuned couple months ago with typhoon intake, vibrant mid length cated header and downpipe and 2.5 axle back to magnaflow muffler. My base dyno was 143 hp. My final tune and run put me at 165 hp and 180 torque. we dynoed in 4th if that makes a difference and the dyno is dyno dynamics according to my dyno sheet? do those numbers sounds decent at least? i was kinda disappointed especially with my base run but i guess im not to bad with my current mods i have done.

do they have the calibration for the cobalts. i know up here the one shop closest to me that just got a dyno had to do a bunch of calibrations and setup stuff for when a few friends got dyno tuned.

and i got pretty much the same mods as you

cai
zzp midlength with high flow cat
gmpp performance catback

could you by chance remember the type of dyno it was? and if it was a dynojet do you mind calling them and asking them what they did to change the calibrations?

ya i should be dyno'ing soon myself to see where i'm at before tuning. got to replace my exhaust cmp sensor first and get this damn downshifting surging corrected first. and the best person to ask would be pickles on here from calgary. he's the one that did the tuning and was present when they did the calibrations for the dyno.
