well when i got my LT i was around 11.5 city, but your fuel mileage will get better as the engine breaks in (about 5000KM) also, shifting at 3000 is good, and the manual reccomends not shifting above 4000 in the first 500km
to get good gas mileage you have to pay attention to your right foot.
thats where most of your gas will be used.
accellerate SLOWLY, go to about 3500 rpm and then shift.
use engine braking when slowing down.
when going up short hills, try not to put your foot in it to keep your same speed.
allow your car to slow down a bit if it has to, youll pick the speed back up on the downslope.
try to time green lights when you can so that your rolling when it turns green.
you use a good amount of gas getting your car moving from a stop.
AC will burn more fuel.
keep your tire pressures between 32-36psi
theres lots of different things to do to help your mileage...
but most important is being gentle with your right foot.

I thought I read somewhere and also heard on a tv show that running your ac and having the windows rolled down is a big myth about wasting gas? Maybe I'm wrong.
I get 24.2-.3mpg with very spirited driving (auto) running 89 gas. My wifes car is up to 26mpg (more highway miles). Just keep your tire pressure up run 89 - 91 gas, and stay of the right pedal like everybody else says. After about 500 - 600 miles you will start to see a diference in the mpg. Also aviod drive throughs if they are busy.

Both use more gas than not using either.
At the end of the day does it really matter how much gas mileage you get? The reality is that unless you are driving insane amounts every day with your car, the difference in cost for a vehicle in gas is going to be less than $50 per month. This along with people that will drive out of their way to find the lowest gas station in town, all the while burning this precious gas they seek... blows my mind. If gas triples in price, then I might worry about it, but hell gas is cheap as **** in my opinion, look at Europe... holy hell... we have it easy in the Norerica! That's right, I just abbreviated North America as a single word... where's my rep points for that? ;0
