header install

Hey, I got the GMPP header for my 07 cobalt. I was just wondering if anyone else had gotten it and installed it themselves. Wanted to know if it was difficult to do or not. The dealer wants like $125 or somethign to do it. Someone let me know thanks

The header install is prettey stright foward, you just need some basic hand tools. Disconnect the cat, and the take out the ten bolts holding on the stock header, then reverse the process.

so like a few hours should pretty much do it all?. IS there any sensors or wiring that has to be undone. I just installed the GMPP performance cat back tonite and should have the header by monday or tuesday so im definitley ready. How much horse you think i would be getting with the header, catback and cold air intake?

No there isn't any electrical connections on the header itself, now on the downpipe that you will have to remove too has the 02 sensor in it so be careful with that!

i think its 10mm wrench. DID YOU TORQUE THEM DOWN!! i checked the torque rating its 250INCHLBS or 7-10 ft lbs check them 1 time a week for about 2 weeks. then you should be good. 2 hrs holy hell it took me 1hr but i also didnt have exhaust.

and thats how i did mine jack and stands. howd that drivers side of the block fit im curious cuz i have the ca header and it was a bitch to get on have to move it just right into the studs and man it sucked.

ryan.

Hey baltracer.... since you ordered the part new do you have the directions with the bolt pattern and torque specs. My L61 to LSJ swap is gonna get done soon and I wanna do it the right way. If you could scan the directions or something that would be awesome.

Its not worth $120. But for like 60, Id have paid some 1 to do mine for me. Its not hard as much as it is a work out for your shoulder. I did mine by myslef (Vibrant Header + DP) and my shoulders and arms were spent after it.

Question Point in new header?

I understand that the header is to expel the waste fumes. But what would be the difference between the stock header and the aftermarket one? Diameter of the piping just a lil larger to allow for more flow? Thats about the only thing that i can think of? Am i right to assume this?

in this case, yes, it is larger and smoother.

a true "header" can make the car vary wildly in power and feel depending on it's design.

most for this sort of car are "shorty" headers that replace the stock manifold. they are basically high flow parts that allow the engine to "breathe better", in the case of larger engines, the header is usually designed to help the car expel gasses a lot faster so that it can rev up and make more power at higher RPM.
