help with upgrades...
help with upgrades...
so i am running out of ideas for performance upgrades. i already have a cold air intake and exhaust. i cant think of too much more to do without re-doing the entire engine,ie. super/turbo charging.has any one heard of a good chip upgrade or if throttle body spacers work well (if they do, any brand names in particular).i dont have the money to turbo, but i would love to down the road (i heard you need new pistons and rods...etc cuz they're only rated for about 250hp). thats besides the point. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kevin

when you say exhaust.. does that include header and downpipe?
there's the crank pully (i think?) which C/A and MRZ have put out and getting it tuned (which honestly opens the car up to a whole new level).
other than that, nothing really until you start either forced induction applications or upgrading internals/ port/polishing.
oh and there's cams too

what do you mean by getting it tuned? you mean computer chip upgrade or anything like that?
header should be fine out in cali, just make sure your downpipe has a cat in it.
i have the Colbalt addiction header with an XTC downpipe (can also be bought through cobalt addiction) with the gmpp sport exhaust. loooove my setup.
when i say tuning, i mean finding someone with the program hptuners, have them go in there and mess with a/f, timing, torque management, ect.
can get alot more out of your car by finding a shop/person with hptuners to tune it for ya rather than getting a canned tune (pre program ecu with a better than stock tune) or getting a "chip"

X2. Headers (if your worried about the laws, than just get the GM Extruded Exhaust Manifold). Downpipe, if you want too. But, a tune will help most cars (it only won't if you have a bad tuner).
I say go with a Header & a Downpipe & get a tune.

thanks all. i appreciate all the help. i think that headers, a down pipe, and a tune will finish up my performance upgrades. Next will be audio (getting rid of the crappy "upgrade" system with weak 10" sub), and who knows what else.
Again, thanks

nope. i had a 92 camaro before my balt with 2- 12" JL subs in a custom box to fit the trunk. i listen to rock and metal, so i had them tuned really crisply (no booms or echos like rap-crap).it didnt rattle anything, and to me, it wasnt over the top like most people. i guess i got used to it and kinda want something that hits harder in the balt. plus a little rubber with double stick on the plate would change any of "those" guys
nitrous.. header, downpipe, big body throttle body.. tune...cams .. crank pulley
you don't really need to open the engine until you're pushing over 300 whp ..
so boost is also an option

u can match port dont try to port and polish ur self its a science u dont just go in takin out material and smooothing **** it it will **** up the whole flow cariteristic of the head but if u match port it makes a pretty big diff im doin it when i get my header its pretty easy

Rebel makes a nice throttle body spacer (there's a "how to" on how to connect a LSJ throttle body on an LE5), 3.5'' throttle body I think.
With that, I would go with Rebel's 3'' intake (best flow out of all intakes; there is so low restrictions that you get a CEL, P017;, your computer needs to be retuned for this intake). I have this intake, and will never look back
go header and dp also
plus get a tune
If you get a TB spacer, you will need to get a tune to take into account for all this air entering otherwise you won't get the max out of your mods and you'll have CEL's all the time (lean A/F codes); don't go with a chip/canned tune if you want to do these mods
if you don't get the TB spacer, get a Vector Tune, it's safe, great gains, and undetectable by dealers (STEALTH TUNE)

thanks
