23(24.5)/8.5/15 vs. 26/8.5/15 (Also 26/8.5/15) Debate for 1/4 mile.
Ok. Have some arguing points for Mr. Exsoccer.
You told me to get 15 inch rims cause they will pull better 60's than 17's. THE PROBLEM is you're also saying to get 23 x 8.5 x 15 tires... which is good for 137 in 4th at 6800RPM. Which is dandy. THE ISSUE is it's only a 4 inch sidewall, which is of main concern. The 24.5 is 4.75 which is better but still not too great.
The 17 inch slick is 26 x 8.5 x 17, meaning 4.5 inch sidewall with a better angle of tire approach due to it simply being 26 inches vs. the 23 inch or even the 24.5 inch tire for the 15 which is recommended.
That's where I don't get things... how a 23 inch tire with 4 inches of sidewall would pull a better 60' than a 26 inch tire with 4.5 inch of sidewall.
Kayla on turbo I estimate at 132-136mph in the 1/4.
Kayla on K04 I estimate at 112-119 in the 1/4.
Then there's the MPH issues which obviously help with the 23's. But I might have an idea.
6800rpm....(gear)
23" = (3)103 and (4)137
6800rpm
26" = (3)120 and (4)155
Since the 26 inch tire will also give a shorter gear, it will have a less aggressive take off accompanied with the actual 26 inch diameter/5.5 inch sidewall, should give wayyyyy better smooooooooooth take offs.
Now the gearing of 155 n 4th obviously won't work since it would be bog central going through the finish line (aftermarket turbo). BUT... If her redline were raised after her turbo swap, she might be able to cross the finish line at redline in 3rd.
7600 = 130mph
7700 = 132mph
7800 = 134mph
7900 = 136mph
8000 = 137mph
Giving a 3 gear 1/4 mile pull without an extra shift to have to regain boost. But losing linear power efficiency that she would have with 4 gears. However, this should make running the car consistently much easier. I figure with a ZFR turbo of sorts, the low rpm lag using only 3 gears will be minimal due to insta-spool. But I'm still going over Dyno-charts of different builds comparing power etc. on how much power lost will be in 3 gears instead of 4.
Now need some mechanical advice...
Looking at these RPM needed for her to simply use 3rd to cross finish line...
Can this be done? I have been thinking that when she turbo upgrades... (Since it's so damn cheap) to do pistons and valvetrain as well. So can you enlighten me a tad? I know the piston rings have a short lifespan if over revved as do the valve springs. What would be needed to achieve such a high RPM? I'm hoping cams is not one of them. Just a properly fitted turbo.
Basically trying to figure out if she should get a 23 x 8.5 x 15 or a 26 x 8.5 x 15.
I want this to turn into a big discussion/debate for learning purposes, so get to it damnit lol.

The more I think about it... She'll likely move onto a new set of tires by the time she's gonna attempt 10's. So gearing the thought of reply more toward the goal of 11's would be more helpful.
Thanks,

BTW: What tire was Matt on when he first ran the 11?
edit: and what redline was he at?

If you're an LNF you won't be able to rev to 8000 rpms, only 7400 due to the phasers...I keep telling people this but I just don't know if they'll ever understand. Now for my setup I'm going with 17" slicks to retain the brembos while running an Avon Motorsport 24.5" slick. I may very well up that to a 26" hoosier slick that the evos use though.
