Helping the engine

Right now I have not changed anything from factory in my car.

I was thinking about switching my air filter to a K&N to maybe help my hp and gas mileage out.

I also got a thing in the mail from chevy and they offer a cold air intake. Is this a good deal from GM? Would it help my gas mileage or lower it? I would assume it may help my HP by about 7-10.

I have an automatic SS 06 model

Thanks!
