launching

so theres this sticky in the drag racing forum and just wanted to know if I would be able to do it without messing up anything in my transmission.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/drag...tarting-36322/

also this would cause massive wheel spin im assuming?

From other threads that ive commented on the best way to launch an auto would be just to either eat through the wheel spin(and tires) or halfthrottle it till about half first then floor it and eat the rest of the wheel spin. Just checking if theres any other ways besides those 2 that ive been told about

you aren't going to spin all the much. also if you do go wide open, your tires will spin.. just keep increasing the rpms till you get to the proper launch rpm, then release the brake and go wide open when you're ready to launch.

heres a pass in the impala. notice after cleaning the tires off at 1:15 i stop. thats when i lit the pre-stage bulb. what i do is roll around the water box. put it in first and turn traction control off, get on the brake and hit the gas bringing it up to stall which i think is 2,500 or 2,250 and then as soon as it loads a bit i'll let off and it'll give 'em a quick spin without doing a brakestand. then i'll turn traction control back on move it to "3rd", which really isn't actually 3rd, it's still first, but it just doesn't stay in 1st as long. i'll pre-stage, brake all the way to the floor, bring it up to 2k rpms and 'bump' the car till it lights the stage bulb. then launch. i mean i gotta be doin something right if i'm still pulling 2.23 60's lol.

what? no.. lol. i mean " then release the brake and go wide open when you're ready to launch." as in you're holding the brake down. and holding the rpms you want. then when you're ready to launch. in the same motion, get off the brake and go wide open.

heres another video of how i stage and launch with the auto. the sound is a little better on this one so you can hear how i'm on the brakes as i go from pre stage to stage.

no it doesn't matter how long you hold it. with higher horsepower cars the brake booster and vacuum comes in to play but its nothing we have to worry about.

but this isn't like a launch control or 2step like the manual cars use. you're on the brake all the way and however much gas you want, both at the same time. then when you launch lift the brake up and push the gas down

finally got around to trying this method out. Idk if i didnt have the brake pressed in enough but i started roasting wheels after like half a second and just decided to take off after that. Pretty nice amount of wheel spin lol.

you were pressing the gas pedal down all the way weren't you lol.... don't do that. brake pedal to the floor. gas pedal down until you're at the rpms you want. NOT all the way down.

lol I figured since it had already stopped at 2k it didnt matter. I didnt think it through since i kinda stopped in the middle of the road and did it real fast lol. (no cars closeby) I figured i would just try launching at like 1.5k rpms or something next time but I will just not have the gas crushed next time lol
