Muffler or catback on automatic?

I have a automatic cobalt ss sedan and i wanted to get a catback exhaust to make it louder. I wanted to get other opinions on if my automatic should get a catback sytem or a muffler? I just want the loud clean sound not some fart can, because i heard that catbacks are more for performance on manual cars.

You'll get the same performance gains on a automatic that you will on a manual. No reason not to get a catback just because you're automatic. GM Performance Parts actually has a very nice sounding catback for the 2.2. As does Magnaflow.

i have a auto 2.4 g5 gt and my custom exhaust sounds really good. it all really depends on how much you wanna spend to get the sound quality you want. if you just want sound then i suggest getting a magnaflow muffler it'll give you a nice sound. if you wanna a catback to get a few more hp then get gmpp touring exhaust or corsa or a magnaflow . you can find video examples on youtube for each one of these exhausts.

Get a magnaflow muffler have it welded in and save some dough. I had this done and it was the best sound of all the exhaust combos I have had on this car.

I just want a sound that is nice i don't care about the extra hp. Will a magnaflow catback have a deeper and louder noise than a magnaflow muffler?

i had a 2.5" exhaust and thought it was too loud. I liked the tone of just having the magnaflow muffler.

I suggest you look into the Ark DT-S. Magnaflow is over rated. I used to be on the Vibrant Header/DP with Ark DT-S catback. Great combo imo and wasn't raspy once it was broken in. Do that or just go turbo

With just the Ark DT-S you'll have a nice rumble. Full exhaust would still have the rumble but will be very loud on WOT. Deafening loud. But still without rasp. Catted btw.

2.25" Option racing exhaust $160 on ebay, perfect fit, no rasp at all, sounds like a street bike. Best exhaust purchase ever.

it'll be louder for sure than just a muffler and a shade deeper. just check ebay for a muffler should be able to get one for about 100 bucks or just got to a exhaust shop in your area and see what they carry. but i suggest going on youtube and type in magnaflow muffler .

I just put a ZZP 2.5 in catted down pipe on my 2.4 with a stock cat back and manifold. Sounds great, not super loud but you can actually hear it now. No whine or rasp like a can would you give. Depends how loud you want it but I was surprised how much louder the car became.

The DP was only like $200

Everyone always forgets about the MES system... it's cheap and it's definitely one of the best sounds you can get for our cars.

For a 2.4 SS, get the 2.5" stainless steel piping.

2.25" is a little too small and 3" would be better suited for forced induction.

I've got a 2.5" w/ Borla muffler, it sounds awesome.

zzp's catbacks are only $350-$400? How do they compare to magnaflow?
