Please look!!! possibly buying ss
So I sold my car awhile back. Found a 2007 2.4 for cheap. The guy said his son was driving and the car started acting funny and quit. Apparently there was a big puddle of oil underneath the car and saw the dipstick was partly out yet the oil was full when he checked it afterwards. Boosted the car and it tries to turn over but makes a whrr sound when you try to turn it over. What do you think the problem is and about how much? I want to buy it but don't want to spend over 1500 to fix it. Thanks
I would say timing chain could be gone, when my buddy's ralliart wouldn't start it made the same noise, turned out his belt had snapped, ruined all of his valves so he ended up just throwing a new-used engine in it.
unless you know what your looking for, and you have mechanical ability; Id just walk away
if the chain jumped/broke/spit something out; the little **** obviously didnt take care of the car

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. If it had under 100k I would get it and buy another motor and drop it in since I could sell it for a profit at some point but 178k miles is kinda pushing it. I just don't wanna spend more than it's worth
Is it a fully load 2.4 SS? The fully loaded models are still going for about 7 grand around these parts, if you can get it and put a motor in it for cheap, probably a good buy IMO.
engine will be around 600-800$
and labor time is close to 12 hours...figure 100$per hour(your time) you will have ~2000$ in it...plus refrigerant, coolant, oil, spark plugs, hoses, thermostat, transmission fluid, brake fluid(wether auto/man trans), ect. misc ****
Figure you will have a minimum of 3000$ in it+purchase of the car
might still need brakes, tires, suspension work, ect...
