question about exhaust
question about exhaust
hey guys i was wondering if i will throw cel codes...if i take eliminate the cat right off the header....but keep the one in the middle....any help appreciated guys thanks you....
our cars only have one cat. (the one right after the header). Its on the downpipe. On an aftermarket exhaust, you might be confusing a resonator, which is common on aftermarket exhausts to give it a nice exhaust note, with a 2nd cat.
That being said, when you eliminate your cat, yes your CEL will come on.....and stay on, much like mind did (im running the CA/XTC 2.5" de-cat downpipe).......and still is. Upon removing the cat, the rear O2 sensor will overheat, causing the ECU to dump extra fuel to cool off what it thinks is still the cat, therefore throwing your air/fuel ratio off. My car runs kinda crappy right now b/c of that, and also b/c my AEM intake was known to throw a CEL every once and a while back when it was my only power mod. Two CEL's don't really make for the best performing car. Hopefully the folks over at Vector will solve my problems with their tune. Also, if you have the time, money and someone who knows what they are doing, HP Tuners can solve these problems too. Really, all you need to do in terms of tuning is have the rear O2 sensor shut off to prevent the ECU from getting a faulty readout of it. Hope this helped!

thanks...i thought i looked under it and seen 2 cats and a resonator...guess i was wrong...i just wanted to free up some power...guess ill just wait to get the header/down pipe/hi-flow thanks
well i bought my gmpp performance and drove it for 2 days then i drove it the 3rd day to columbus which is 150 miles from where i live up north ohio. and had no problems. no cel with intake or exhaust or anything. but after we put injectors in and tuned it pretty good i had a cel come on about a week after that. it was sensing more flow which was exhaust. so we shut it off the one on the header.
