question before I take it to the stealership

My check engine light keeps coming on. I will get gas and it will go off and then come back on after about a half a tank. I had Advanced auto scan it but they said they can't tell what is wrong with it and I will have to take it to the stealership. Should I try to have somebody else scan it or any idea's on what this issue may be? Fuel pump possibly? Just trying to get one last opinion before I have to take it to these guys.

lol i would never count on autozone to tell me whats wrong with it...
do you know what the code was?

if you scanned it with the crappy scanner at autozone with out the light on it will tell u nothing.
the dealership can scan and diagnose exactly what needs to be done. and not a what MIGHT need to be done.

there is a whole list of exactly what each code means. He wont need anyone here to tell him what to do. It could be something simple. Why go with the first most expensive option before pursuing cheaper safer routes. It can help give him an idea at the last. There are knowledgeable and techs on this site too.

sarcasm is noted though

not all techs at dealerships know wtf their talking about either, when they thought my small vacuum leak was due to a pulsing after market pulley that wasn't designed for the car.(verbatim)

im sure you are..it wasn't possible to tell before though thanks. Good you guys can make money on wrong diagnosis and misinformation just as much as anyone else too .

Im not against dealerships..im just saying dont go the most expensive route before even knowing a little about what might be happening.

You obviously missed the entire point of my post..but good job on whatever it is you did

My brother had this same problem it ended up being his gas tank sensor and he ended having it replaced for free since his car is still under warranty. so you should definetly take it in because most likely thats whats wrong with your car.

Thanks. I just hit 68,000 miles so hopefully it's still under warranty. It's throwing a code of p1174.

I am going to check the air filter on my Cold Air Intake tomorrow to make sure it is clean. Have to take the bumper off for that.

this might help... but as it says...
GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a ""do-it-yourselfer"". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

i had the p1174 code in my 06 pursuit gt with a p0171, and it would do the same thing, put gas in the CEL would turn off and then back on after a while... turns out it was the injectors, i replaced all of them and no problem since...

heres a tsb about this problem: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-4l...s-lean-217194/

i didnt need the new calibration tho but im trifecta tuned but i dont know if it makes a difference
