Regular oil vs Synthetic Oil

Going for my first oil change tomorrow, and I wanna know which I should get. Regular, or synthetic?

Synthetic FTW!

It breaks down a lot slower, offering prolonged protection when compared to regular.

Search about oil, and you'll find some very informative links.

I use Mobil 1, but I am looking into Quaker State Q power or something like that.

why is there even a question about this?

standard oil = old tech
synthetic = new tech

synthetic is just conventional oil...but better.

for the extra few dollars it's worth it. i use synthetic, change it at about 6,000 miles, and the oil comes out looking pretty clean still. regular oil would probably be black and gunky, which = ftl. you don't HAVE to use synthetic, but in the long run it will be cheaper because you're doing less oil changes.

To answer the original post... Synthetic FTW and regular FTL. Go synthetic and don't go back.

(at least have 1 oil change done by them) I've never used synthetic or had a dealer change oil so thats why all the ?'s. First NEW car (but not first car)

No walmarts in NYC!?!? you could also try an auto parts store. they should have what you need. e.g. pepboys, o'reilly auto parts ETC

having the dealer change the oil will cost you about 65-70 bucks. not worth it.

yeaah i think we have "target" or costco in replace of wal-mart. but target= 100% opposite side of island, and costco I don't know if they sell auto stuff. So I'm prob better off with pep boys. But I guess you didn't see my edit... will the dealer use oil I bought and tell them to put in?? Or are they gonna give me a hard time about it?

do an oil change yourself. it's rediculous easy, and will save you alot of money vs. taking it to the dealer

don't you need to have at least 1 oil change done by the dealer? And my driveway is on a slant, and I don't have those things that hold up the car after you jack it. And I don't have anything to put the oil in and what do I do with it after? And where does the fuel filter go? (changing oil in the st is illegal and I have to do it in the driveway the garage is packed with stuff)

any gas station is required to take the old oil. buying jackstands is a good idea for the future anyway. and once you buy the car it never has to se the dealer again. (thankfully)

Oh really? I thought you HAVE to get your oil changes there and stuff. I mean hey the dealer does a 27 multi point check... I certainly can't do that, and I don't know what to trust more in terms of tire pressure.. the DIC... a pressure gauge or the pressure gauge on the thing you use to fill up your tires.. they all say different readings! arg!!!!

yea tire preassure is hard. but you should just do the chalk test. draw a line of chalk on the tires thane drive the car so the chalk line rotates more than twice. after that fill or remove air so the chalk line wears off of the tire evenly.
