Is a resonator necessary?

Ok i've tried to get an answer in a thread all week so ill just start a new one. I'm throwing around the idea of picking up an exhaust from that mandrelexhuastsystems.com site. I know they don't come with resonators on them and was wondering what it would sound like without one. I'm not really concerned with it being loud, as i know it would, i just don't want it to sound like ****. any input?

bump

resonators eliminates the raspiness. no need to spend the money if you dont mind the ugly cold start sounding raspiness some exhausts get.

i had that exhaust and it was awsome no rasp without a res.... how ever i put a header and catless downpipe on and it made it alot louder and raspy... i put a cat on and it sounded slightly less raspy but having a resonator helped alot also which was my next move

Necessary, no. Recommeneded, highly on 4 cylinder.

I took the resonator out of mine, and left the factory muffler in. It had a great tone, and made the car slightly louder. I have since put a flowmaster 40 series in place of the factory muffler. now the car is way too loud. I wish I had left the resonator in there.

its all gonna depend on your exhaust setup for how loud and annoying or good the car will sound
