SS 2.4 Stock - Updated with Dyno Numbers

What kind of WHP numbers should an '06 2.4 put down bone stock. I'm guessing it will make 150-160 based on accelleration.

Thanks!

It's an auto. So what are we looking at 145-150? It seems higher, but I guess it is pretty light.

Less than 150 for sure. In fact because of the poor gearing in the auto, a 2.2 5-speed is probably quicker.

Oh, you're a stunning 2 whp over 150. Go back the next day and you'd be under. The day after on a different dyno you'd be 160. Fact is... the auto sucks power.

the auto isnt that bad on this car and when you tune the auto it really wakes up. i dont see a 2.2 5 speed beating a 2.4 auto if both are raced properly.

2.4L auto tranny 3.91:1 final drive is an excellent ratio for accelerating. You also forget that the converter is actually a plus under acceleration -- multiplies torque under acceleration because of the stator. There's more to an auto than is widely known...

agreed..this is why a tune opens up the auto 2.4 real well...a tune done right..lol

Yep, the torque converter really does give a big boost in the low end torque delivered to the wheels....question is, can you get it hooked up? If you can, it's soooo much easier to drag an auto with consistant results...too many variables with a stick.

Sure hope hptuners gets the 08 2.4 unlocked for us soon, would like to do a few things that only a tune can do

I normally charge between $200-250 depending if it is an Auto or five speed, and mods
done to the car.

check my sig for my numbers. But a tune would really help with an auto.

depends on the conditions. Some shops are warmer or cooler then others and eeryone knows that cooler weather is better to run in. My car runs at little shittier when its above 75 and humid. But when its about 50 outside its perfect. Im sure there are more variables then that though. As for the shifting in a auto 2.4. Can you get a shifting chip for the 2.4 like the 2.2 has? i have a 5speed but i was just wondering.

If you mean the B&M shift-plus...works on both the 2.2 and 2.4 autotrannies. The auto is pretty much the same -- just the final drive ratios are different...3.63:1 in the 2.2 and 3.91:1 in the 2.4

the shift kits are good for the 2.2 cuz not many companies have tuning available..but the tune on the 2.4 opens the whole care up..def get a lot of gains on a good tune.

Got her on the dyno today, and you guys were right on. Bone stock and running 87 octane, it put down a couple 146whp pulls and a 148whp pull. With a quick PCM mod to run closer to 13:1 AFR, and 1 degree added timing, it put down 150. The real improvement was in the average HP gain of 6whp and nearly 8 ft lbs of torque gained at 4800 RPM. With another degree of timing added it already had KR. and hit 150whp again. I'm thinking some exhaust mods would allow a more aggressive tune. Otherwise, It's going to need 89 octane or higher to get much more out of it without any mods.

We will keep you updated with our progress.

Thanks for giving the dyno results. I got a g5 gt and its a auto. I only have a k/n typhoon intake for mods so with that i should be atleast 160 whp.
