The GM build book shows the 2.2L going up to about 286HP prior to part failure. The 2.4L VVT engine has some slight differences designed to make it slightly stronger then the 2.2L.

From the GM media docs;
http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en...06_PWT_LE5.pdf
  • C70 material forged steel connecting rods
  • the block's bulkheads (where the main bearing caps attach) were enlarged for added strength
  • Approximately 2.5 pounds (1 kg) of mass was added to these and other critical areas of the cylinder block structure.
  • water-jacket is deeper into the block for added cooling
  • block-mounted oil cooler is included
  • cylinder head casting is by a semi-permanent mold process to achieve higher strength

However the engine has a higher CR then the 2.2L so that is an obstacle that also has to be overcome. I'm not sure how much more power you could make then a 2.2L but I'd guess it could possibly handle near the same 286HP prior to having some of the same issues. Check out the build book and some of the other resources online, they show the HP that various issues started happening at and what they did to overcome them.

the 2.2L is reliable to 250 (as in the gm build book), i would think that if anything, the 2.4L has better than the 2.2L internals, if that helps.

i have to call gm tomorrow anyways about my other project, i will ask them.

Well he's currently still doing testing and has said that he will not relase the kit until he's happy with performance and reliability, and with his reputation, i'll truts that. But yes its a little high, but when i went to Vector Motorsports for my na tune, they said that with a good tune the motor will be able to run 8-9 psi safe. Hopefully some lower compression pistons come out to the market. Also a thicker headgasket will lower it a little bit. Although now thinking back the 300hp was at the 10-12 psi range and were seeing i believe 260 at 7-8.

yeah i can afford the kit but being that the auto tranny wont like that much power without being upgraded so ill just have to tune the kit to be at exactly 250whp

Well I got the 5sp but I bet if I do go the turbo route, I might as well be ready for a new clutch or something.

yeah the stock tranny wont hold in either situation but the 5 speed is easier to mod i think, im not sure if i will have to replace more than my tq convertor to hold the extra power or not
