Straight from GM

I recently e-mailed GM with the following questions. Think you'll find the answers interesting

ME:GM Performance division developed the S/C SS but did they have any
influence over the 2.4L SS?

GM: GM Performance Division did take over complete development of the SS like
they did with the S/C SS.

This should shut up all the people who think the SS is nothing more then an LS with bigger engine

Extrude honed exhaust manifold - 19131972
-For LSJ engines only. Will bolt to the 2.4L and 2.2L, but is not
validated for those 2 engines, so some exhaust changes may be required,
which would not be emissions compliant.

Cat-back exhaust - 17802111 -Will work on the car

-No parts for the 2.4L engine in development at this time. We do have a
catback exhaust and an airbox (available 1st qtr 2006, information not
released yet) from GM Performance Parts

Thats a little tricky to understand. I take it to mean "no specific parts" (for the 2.4L) Exhaust and airbox
would be interchangeable (2.2L and 2.4L air box)

The FE3 suspension and the FE5 suspension have different springs and strut
damping rates. No further technical information is available.

GM: Thanks for your interest in the Cobalt SS and for being a true automotive
enthusiast.

I ran these part #'s at gmgoodwrench.com and no match. Are they available yet?
As far as the exhaust manifold goes if the architecture is the same (aside from the 2.4 having a stronger block) it should work. Such as head dims, block deck height etc.
Also does the 2.4 have a comparable stock manifold in relation to the S/C? With the larger displacement and all.

Ecotecs are a singular engine family and have a high degree of interchangeable parts. (a platform is delta, Epsilon ect ---a cars chassis)

Yes the exhaust manifold would work but as they said. "some exhaust changes may be required, which would not be emissions compliant"

Go to

and type in part numbers.

Not sure if you guys missed it but a major point was that our 2.4L SS cars were developed by GM Performance Division. Same as the S/C SS, Trail Blazer SS, CTS-V ect.

Maybe you haven't heard of it but they are responsible for all GMs niche performance models. I hear so many people on this site that think the 2.4L SS is nothing more then a sporty LS. Well this proves its alot more then that!

well I wouldn't say the engine. The 2.4L is in alot of GM cars so its not really unique. Like the 2.0L S/C is or the 5.3L LS4.

But then again the Trailblazer SS and CTS-V have 6.0 LS2s like the Corvette and GT0--and the are not GMPD cars. But I digress....

GMPD designed the whole package. And yeah you can put a badge on it--or the engine compartment. Cause its true

Is that your SS in your sig? Got anymore pics or a link to your cardomain page?
Interesting stripe. Reminds me of some 70's Firebirds that had that.

Found your page....get some more pics up there! And larger too!

I understand GM's disclaimer, but if these are all the same engine family including dimensions and this extruded exhaust manifold is designed as an interchange for the S/C than there should be no modifications needed. Again if the dimensions are the same and this part is emissions compliant, than it should be a green light!
Hopefully
Whats needed is interchange info
IE: The 2.0/2.4 are the same from the block to the cat exit/enterance,
block to downpipe
and so on

do you think i could put the GM blower for the 2.2 on the 2.4? my buddy just got a 2.4 ss and he wants to make it faster than my 255 WHP LSJ. i dont think that the 2.4's compression can handle forced air induction, but i want others opinions.

im sure it can handle a good 7 psi which translates into roughly 70whp so with a turbo he would give you a run for your monye and the lag might work to his advantage for traction reasons

After driving many turbo and supercharged cars at my valet job, I happen to like turbo better anyway.

Twin turbo V6 3000 GT VR4 = fun

I goin to take my turbo off me cavalier, when i move back home. Should be around April. Its a Hahn racecraft turbo I talked to Bill Hahn the owner and says that it should be able to handle the 8psi boost that my stock block 2.2 eco was running.
