Supercharging my 2.4,,, eventually

For a start, Hi. I have never introduced myself css.net so let me do it now. My name is Rob and I own a 06 cobalt ss 2.4 auto. My current mods are a gmpp cat back. k&n intake, and a lsj throttle body however i am untuned. I paid the car off a few months ago and figured it was about time i started working towards a supercharger build. I just commenced the deal by picking up a m62 off eBay.

So back on black Friday i picked up a zzp long tube header and since the weather is starting to get warm I'm itching to install it. My plans were to pick up hp tuners and get used to the program while tuning n/a so that when i went to the supercharger i would have a good idea of what i needed to do. However unfortunately my laptop has crapped the bed and buying a new laptop AND hp tuners in the next month or so just isn't in the budget. So what are the chances that i would run into problems if i ran my car fully bolted and untuned for a month or two before i was ready to get to tuning?

Now back to the supercharger. The m62 i picked up has zzp's 2.9 pulley on it already. Is anybody running a 2.9 on their s/ced 2.4 and if so have you had any issues. I assume i would be able to run gm's stage 2 belt (I do plan on going to the lsj's 6 rib belt) but what injectors would be best 42's or 60's? Would i need even colder plugs than whats suggested in beck's build guide?

Also general build thread. I will start putting together a build list and post it here soon.

Your untuned on LSJ throttle body? Hows the driveability?

You will be fine down to 2.7/2.8 pulley.
Make sure you get cooling mods as well.
dual pass
option B/flow thru tank
phenolic spacer
heat exchanger

I wouldn't bother with 42s; go 60s or 80s

You should use NGK LFR6A-11

The car runs great. Only issue I had was that the car would idle all over the place but after a couple days that worked itself out. I don't know that the car is really any faster with the throttle body than before but I definately get up to speed with less pedal.

I'm on a 2.9 same yr and auto. Had the 3.1 on befofe the 2.9 and then switched it and had it running like that for like 2 months but never got it running good because I had a bad sc and was getting loads of kr so my tune was turned down. Wouldnt be able to tell you how running a reg 2.9 feels like. I switched to e85 and I can feel the tranny screaming in pain now lol. Have the tune turned down again because of that. Like stated above get cooling mods for sure. To fit a full cold air intake I had to do a little modification on mine which is cuz of the auto I think. I can send you zzps sc kit install instructions if you want

id recomend once you have everything installed dont tune it your self and have someone that knows tune it instead...everything else it seems your off to a good start in gathering parts etc..

go with 60s or 80s like someone already mentioned..

and start investing on your wide band and interceptor gauges first

Oh yeah get a wideband. Idk what the perks of having a interceptor are? Bur uh yeah I'd get a tune from a experienced tuner and learn from them.

I have a 3.1 pulley and a 2bar map sensor if you want them :p lol

After having an interceptor I'd skip gettting one and just get a dash/window mount for your phone and the buy the Torque app. Can watch the same things for way less $$.

Ive already got my wideband and am probably going to install it at the same time as my header. Interceptor is a good idea but i will have to check out this torque app and see if its any good. The advice of tuning from someone else and learning from them is dually noted. i have put quite a bit of research into this both on this site and on the hp tuners forum and i am a total perfectionist when it comes to doing work of any kind so i would not do anything without fully understanding what i was doing. That being said i will probably still take your advice.

If you get hpt you can view everything in the scanner knock included. There's a few tunes floating around on the forum for baseline 2.4 supercharged. It will be safe then you can just tweak from there. Up to you. Reading about it and actually using the software is a huge difference. Most of the info they have applies to lsjs and lnfs
