Thinking about Gauge Installs

on my SS/NA. Not Boosted or anything... I was curious what type of things are important to monitor with the SS/NA that would warrant this type of install / purchase.

I want a Triple Pod Gauge A Pillar but I'm curious about what I should use the Gauges to monitor?

I was thinking:

Oil Pressure
Exhaust Temperature
Intake Temperature

I know it seems like a "Fanboy" type of thing to do to have a Pillar that sims the SS's but I want to slowly build into a TC later on and it will help if I purchase the little things at first then make the big purchases later because Ill already be setup and it will keep my overhead low.

Any insight?

the only useful one's of those for your car is the oil pressure and you don't really need it since the car has an oil light on the dash. i recommend planning the build first and figuring out which gauges you really want. EGT is great but not everyone needs it. for example look at my gauge set-up

from top to bottom and left to right

-autometer ES oil pressure
-autometer ES vac/boost
-AEM wideband
-Aeroforce interceptor
-PLX exhaust gas temperature

the most useful gauges if you really want to get this done now is an interceptor, wideband, vac/boost gauge.

Well, I want to monitor Oil Pressure + Air Fuel Ration and Intake Air Temperature. I can exchange the Intake Temp Pod for an Exhaust Temp Pod later right?

you would be better off getting an interceptor to monitor that iat's. they are already on there, and egt's i think is just another sensor that plugs in.

why is intake air temperature such a big deal for you? not try to be an ass. just wondering. it's going to be similar to the temperature outside. the interceptor monitors intake air temperature as well

From what I've seen, Interceptors cost $300 alone. I would classify that as a mid to high range item when I buy the TC and push the parts.

I don't know why its important to monitor Intake Temps, I just like the idea knowing the temperature of the air going into the motor I guess.

Easy enough -- Unless I find a customized SS/TC locally that someone will just let me pick parts off it, I won't be getting an Interceptor until I boost it =/

So ultimately I'd just put a "Placebo" pod in until I boost at which time I'd get the interceptor. So AEM Wideband + Oil Pressure + Exhaust temperature?

i dont mean to sound like a dick but if 300$ is already straining the pocketbook id just save every penny you have till you had the money to boost it then put all the little stuff togther.

let me put it this way. when you turbocharge/supercharge your car, all it will NEED is a vac/boost gauge and a wideband. all the others are optional. gauges get pricey. hard to believe but i have $1,000 worth of monitoring devices between the pods and gauges

$300 isn't straining the pocketbook, but it is when I just spent $1,700 on it last week. Looking around I may end up having to wait on the boosted goodies until I actually boost. The Wideband + 3 Pod A Pillar is knocking on 300 anyway.

I could probably get away with buying a used 3 Gauge A Pillar + the necessary gauges (Wideband + Interceptor + Exhaust Temp) for less than I would pay retail.

While were on the topic of boosting I need to do some research to find out what I need to get to go from NA to TC on the 2.4
