Turbo ?

has any 2.4s put a turbo on their cars. I read something about one from maximus that fits our cars. Only gives us like 4-5 psi. 40-50 horsepower. anybody think this will be a good idea. only costs $2300

I haven't heard of any major parts manufacturers making aftermarket F/I systems for our cars yet... I don't think anyone has cracked the VVT codes...

Although, VVT and Boost applications do not work together. On a stock engine that has high compression, it is possible to leave it as is and run low boost. The thread starter said 4-5 Psi...

As long as some sort of fuel management is taken into account and the turbo is never to go over 4 or 5 at most, the VVT will not prove to be a major problem.

The only thing that I am not aware of that you might want to look into is how "Active" the stock ECU is. On My Mazda, the ECU is rather simple and does basic functions like run the ignition timing and modify fuel delivery. If the ECU on the 2.4 is very active and sees boost, it might think something is very wrong with the sesnors and cause "Limp Mode"

You would trigger CEL.

I agree with Silver Streak. The ECU has to be taken into account for any kit that would be made for the 2.4

Are you saying "Stock"

cause if not my answer is aftermarket engine control.

In the case of Stock, it was part of the design from the get go. GM is not about to start designing diferent ECU's just to that it's owners can just fire Turbochargers etc on their cars.

Fundamental Diference is that one comes with a turbo and has been designed with that in mind. The stock ECU on the 2.4 is an N/A car, it will perform like one. Adding a Turbo to a Stock N/A ECU has to be planned, N/A VVT is not something I would start High-Boosting

i agree with that but i mean im sure the aftermarket will pick up here pretty soon so that high boosting can be done i just wanted to clarify thta high boost and vvt are still a viable option with the right tuning, although im probably gonna just be good for a while on 6-7 psi on stock car

still searching cuz I have nothing else to do lol I found this on motor trend dummies don't know the difference of a 2.2 and 2.4 lol anyways I found this and the kit gave the HHR 71ponies. I wonder how much PSI they are pushing. NOTE: this is a rear mounted turbo and they are impressed with the power and with the low turbo lag. Anyways it also has a web page for the company who made the turbo. For the HHR it says it cost 4000bucks. Not bad in my opinion for 71ponies. So my search continues. I might be on a roll here.

r u sure cuz it has ECOTEC VVT on the valve cover. See....

this is the 2.2 notice the difference on the valve cover...

so the engine in the HHR couldn't be a 2.2

this might be a good time to ask-the 2.4 has force induction-which gives it more HP the the 2.2, so what is force induction? can a turbocharge beable to fit both the 2.2 and the 2.4, or will there 2 different turbos to fit both engines?

Why is a line going from the fuel rail to the intake-throttlebody ???

I never seen that pic before. I'm amazed motortrend would screw up that badly if it is a 2.4l. i would write into the magazine if i really really cared lol. I guess we ahve to assume that it is the 2.4L. How much HP does this engine put out?

If that is a 2.4L then the STS system only gave it 40 something extra horse is that really worth 4 grand?

It has an extra injector mounted in the intake. It's address fuel management, alot better than most kist whic just fun an FMU. #1.

correct. it actually looks like a nice setup, though the cost is mostly due to the extensive piping they need to do. i'd wait for a "real" turbo kit.

those rear mount turbos are decent on big v8s, but i'd stay away from them on a smaller engine if you want big power. for the average consumer, it would be fine though.

personally, i'm holding off for a supercharging solution. either that or just swap in an LSJ...
