What is the 4t45e converter stall stock and what stall should I go for?
I'm getting my trans built by http://www.engineered.net/eplsd.htm and it should be here by the end of the week but I still need to know what kind of stall the stock converter is and what stall I should go for if not stock. As of the last time I raced the car I know it didnt go high enough for me to build boost at the line. I'm thinking it was stalled at 2100 or so. I want a slightly higher stall to maybe build a little bit of boost at the line but I'm most concerned with keeping it daily drivable and not a pain to go around town.
Anyone have some input? Need to know by wednesday. Thanks.

I've read that the stall for the stock converter is 2500 RPM. I'm personally think that 2500 RPM should be enough but we're talking about the stock converter which probably wasn't designed for hard launches and will reduce the life of it significantly.
Ah but what do I know my car is still completely stock performance wise.

Not sure. Maybe different years = Different stalls.
I went and did it 4-5 times throughout the day. 2k each time.
However to you, id recommend at most a 3k stall. otherwise your car wont be very fun to drive just cruisin around.

I think im gonna stay stock, heard too many undesirable side effects of a bigger stall for a street car, Im sure it would be beneficial for a full race car but not sitting in traffic. Plus I already have traction problems at the line, cant imagine launching under boost making those any better ha ha.

a 3k would be adequate. anything higher is just stupid on a street car.
as for the launch under boost, your right. but thats nothin a set of radials/slicks wont fix

Maybe a 2500 would be good, I cant get a hold of the builder right now to see if I still have time to change my choice but either way a 2k will be fine if thats what it is, i'll think of it as launch control ha ha.

right. but who knows, they might be a 2xxx stall, but we're only seeing a 2k.
so your 2k might only be 1500....im just shootin for anything.
i've seen people buy 3500stalls, and they end up stalling at 3100...
regardless, good luck to you and thats pretty bitchin.

I talked to the builder today and he said that he believes the 2k stall is a tuning issue with the throttle not be 100% open when torque braking. He said possibly it could be only opening the throttle 40% and that could be causing the 2k stall. Gotta see if it can be tuned to stall higher.
