Maybe I missed something, but which times are you referring to?

2.4L SS--the 3800 has good torque but no top end.

From what I have read on the board..a 2.4L auto is a 15.7 sec car. I seriously doubt a NA 3800 could match that.

Here, I'll supply you with facts......

Cobalt SS auto - 171 hp and 2900lbs - 16.96lbs per hp.

Impala LS auto - 200 hp and 3450lbs - 17.25lbs per hp.

Is 29hp going to make up for an extra 550lbs? No.

So the Cobalt has a slight hp to weight advantage.

Fact is these two cars are going to run pretty close. Impala is high 15s, low 16s at the track stock. The SS auto's here have been running about the same.

the gearing will make HUGE difference also. Does anybody know the final drive on the 2.4 or impala?

I was dead even with him until the impala went into third, soon as it shifted he started pulling and kept a solid car length. So yeah, Impala has no top end and shitty gearing.

We ran and decided to post this poll before we posted the vids... just to see what people would expect.

How about against the '06 Impala LTZ? That one is basically the SS except with the 3.9 V-6 with 242 HP (two more horses than the supercharged 3.8 in the 2005 Impala SS) instead of the 300+ HP V-8 in the SS. According to Motor Trend, it does 0-60 in 7.8 (see http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...interior.html). Also according to Motor Trend, the Cobalt SS 2.4 5-speed does 0-60 in 7.1 (January 2006 issue - the article is not available on-line at Motor Trend).

Now, the question is how would the 2.4 SS Auto do against the '06 Impala LTZ? I suspect that the auto would reduce the 0-60 more than .7 seconds, so the Impalas would win.

If I can talk my wife into it, we'll find out. She just traded for an '06 Impala LTZ. I'll see if she's willing to street race my 2.4 auto SS. I can see the cops now, pulling over a couple of "old people" street racing!

You just contradicted yourself...you said they have no top end, yet he pulled a car length on you in third gear and kept it? You makey no sense!

The next poll should be "how many people have called your debaged cobalt an impala"

really, if you cant tell the difference dont look at my ******* car! just, walk away.. go.. yea, nice car, yeah yeah.. go

but anyway, back to the topic of this thread, put your money on the impala so i can buy a new header with my winnings... and for the ESL students, that means the supercharged lighter car should win. with an automatic theres no skill involved in WOT

If you re-read, it was the non-supercharged. Both were autos.
