I'm liking the next sedan design better than the current one, and hopefully the coupe won't be as dumpy looking as the Focus coupe.

Hey I don't think thats a future Cobalt man. That car is being developed by DaeWoo(GM bought it 10yrs ago) and the car has a code name of J3000 or whatever (but for sure its J series) which is covering Lacetti (Optra in Canada ) line up. that car is ugly Ive seen a more detailed pic and don't worry it wont be our future Cobalt. I don't even know why MT wrote an article sayin thats a cobalt.

source: My uncle is a distric manager of Daewoo in Korea lol

That's funny. From another article I read in Motor Trend, I was under the impression we weren't to see an all-new Cobalt until 2013 or so. According to the same article, the Cobalt was inline to receive a significant facelift/redesign in 2009-2010 using the current platform, but not a clean sheet from the ground up. If true however, this indeed is good news, because by the time of the launch of the new car, the current platform will be five years old and due for an upgrade.

Here was the article:

"The Chevy Cobalt gets a moderate facelift by mid-2009 for the 2010 model year, and a 1.4 liter turbo engine for tightened CAFE purposes about the same time. The turbo will be based on an existing engine used in Europe. An all-new compact Chevy will replace the current Cobalt for the 2013 model year."

Pretty confusing, huh? Perhaps they're rushing the new small car architechture to market to combat the high gas prices, kind of how they rushed the GMT900 trucks to market to capitalize on their suffering bottom line two years ago.

Damn, that thing just looks bloated. I thought the Cobalt was a sport-compact, not a midsize luxury. That car looks as long and wide as the new Camaro!! That's got to be something different. I sure hope the coupe is about a foot shorter and 3-6 inches skinnier. And if they lowered the roofline, I wouldn't complain either. I think they should get rid of that curvy roof, and insert a fastback style.

I refuse to believe that's a Cobalt!!

Yeah, I know. It's part of the entire GMDAT conglomerate that GM uses to build most of it's small cars in Asia. But they will now be using them to build a lot more global small cars in an effort to globalize engineering and development costs across the board. It makes a lot of sense, and you gotta admit, the Koreans have come a long way in terms of build quality and product in the past decade, so I wouldn't sweat it too much. It's irking to know that you may not be driving something completely homegrown, but in the end it should make GM a stronger company.

Am I the only one that sees shades of Mazda3 in the side profile?

I, like many in this thread, find it hilarious at how much people are freaking out over spy shots over a fully camouflaged test car. That's the equivalent of getting all hot and bothered by the sight of a woman's bare ankle. As far as we know, the final design may not even be locked in yet. Take the latest Corolla for instance. It went for a last minute re-design because Toyota felt that the first version looked to staid compared to the just then released current gen Civic. But regardless, GM won't want to make the base model sedan too racy, because it will be the volume seller and shouldn't scare away any buyers with edgy styling. They'll leave the flair for the SS coupe and sedans when they launch.

#1. You may have placed a deposit with the dealer, but not an order with GM. GM doesn't accept actual orders until the cars are in the system.

#2. The Camaro will not have an LS2. The LS2 is out of production. The V8 available at introduction will likely be the LS3.

#3. Colors haven't been officially announced yet, though Victory Red is certainly a possibility.

And to not totally get OT on the thread, I'd guess with some certainty those pictures are the next Cobalt.

I dont like it also. but i think the current coupe cobalt is great. maybe a few updates in the front and corvette taill lights ( all four light up).

Y dont all you photoshop experts and people with free time come up with what the new perfect cobalt should look like according to you, instead of complaining about this camouflaged car that may not even be a final version.
