Chevy Cruze to receive Turbocharged 1.4L engine, 40 MPG
From: autoblog.com
Rising fuel prices, both in the U.S. and abroad, means that automakers can now offer similar engines in vehicles sold throughout the world. According to Automotive News, General Motors' next small car, the Chevrolet Cruze, will be offered with a new 1.4-liter force-fed four-banger, putting out between 120 and 140 horsepower and returning fuel mileage in the 40 mpg range.
The first version of the Cruze will be a sedan, but other body styles, including hatchbacks and wagons, are likely to come to market soon thereafter. The Cobalt-replacing Cruze will be built in Lordstown, Ohio, and sales will begin next Spring in Europe after the production version of the car is shown in Paris this October.

...small displacement, check
...forced induction, check
...good fuel economy, check
...I smell Honda of the 90's all over again
The only thing missing is the ability to Frankenstein cars and motors, but that could come in time... hopefully

Umm you guys realize, this car is an economy car...1.4L turbo'd and 40mpg is awsome. This car will probably be pretty cheap like 13-15 thousand most. This car is not meant for speed...I mean obviously look at the design (pukes) Bigger turbo will be easy to do though since it's already turbo'd. (can't go too big of a turbo because of the extremely small displacement...) And if people really want performance out of this car, I see a lot of swaps coming in the future just like the honda guys....
My prediction is that they have a ton of recalls and problems. But that's a nostrodamus type prediction
I think that some people will buy them, but to make this car the replacement for the Cobalt, is a mistake IMO.
I just think they are "downgrading" (I don't know much of a better word for it). I understand they want better fuel economy, but why don't they go a hybrid route?

Dunno. The turbo for the car isn't going to be that big obviously, so maybe not?. I'll keep my 2.2L as well. No replacement for displacement.

Usually thats heard from a little bigger motors then 2.2.
