1.8 looks like junk. 1.4L Turbo looks good---remember this is focused on fuel economy.
Just needs a coupe, 2.4L DI and an SS model.

GM admitted the LE5 was a mistake, I doubt they'd put an intermediate motor in this one too... if the LAF will be the top motor then so be it, but if they go with the LNF I don't see the 2.4 DI making it in. I also say don't call it SS, call it a sport and be done with it.
Excluding fleet sales, GM surely builds as many coupes as sedans for these cars... where the hell is the coupe?

I think they need to keep producing the Cobalt SS to fill the affordable sport coupe void. Maybe we should start a petition or email GM reps? They have put so much effort into improving the handling and performance of the Cobalt that it would be a shame to see it killed off so soon.
SS is no longer politically correct at goverment motors you will probably see a hybrid before a LNF. Besides 3 production years is not a bad run the LSJ (05-07) only lasted 3 years in the cobalt and the SRT4 neon only lasted 3 years (03-05) we had the same time as the rest of them unfortunetly the LNF didn't catch on like those guys be it because the bad economy or inability to really tune the ecu or other factors. unfortunetly this may be it for the LNF and any replacement will have to meet a new politically correct standard.
2.0T - 260 hp
2.4 n/a (2.0 + 0.4) - less hp
1.4T -138 hp
1.8 n/a (1.4 + 0.4) - less hp
Nothing we haven't seen before from the General.
Why, however, they are producing 2 motors for this car with effectively no difference in hp, is beyond me.

GM is not shelving SS by any stretch. Read:

High performance is not dying. Just transforming. We will see smaller engine with turbos.

The performance cars at GM are NOT dead.

The truth is that GM doesn't know how to market their product...when I went shopping for a GM product, I didn't know what I was looking for until I did some research and discovered that SS/TC held the class record at Nurburgring...WTF?!?!? Why wasn't I told this? Why wasn't the world told this??!?!?!
And the "hope and change" is working out just great...

YET, why is there never a commercial.
I promise if they had an HD video of the Cobalt SS/TC at Nurburging on TV, that they would fly off the shelves. I think I saw one SS/SC in a commercial once.
Agree with umrdyldo; mind you they went on a spree for a while there of marketing the "deals" they had not the vehicles. They're now returning to marketing the vehicles but far too many are focused on fuel efficiency. When the SCs were first released they were flying off the dealer's lots, the TCs are an entirely different story BUT that might be a sign of the times (ie. the average vehicles owner sees "turbocharged" or "supercharged" mixed with "premium fuel" and run for the hills.
So far as the Cruze is concerned I have seen 0 mention of it on Canadian television yet. They have a commercial where they show the new Aveo (I'll be honest, it's a nice step up), the Volt and Malibu but again they don't really call anything out on them. The TC SHOULD have been marketed based on track performance but it wasn't; mind you I don't recall the NSRT-4 or CSRT-4 being marketed here heavily either.....
