Vince buys a Cruze LTZ
Pretty sure it is at least a few hundred pounds heavier.
Performancewise, it's definitely not an SS Cobalt - not even the same league. In fact, it's pretty sluggish from the factory. Not so bad with our tune but it's definitely not a rocket ship.
It seems like GM didn't want this car to drive like a turbocharged car. If you think the turbocharger is quiet on the stock LNF, it sounds like a freight train compared to the Cruze's turbo. You can't hear *anything*. I even tried hacking up my airbox to get a little more noise. It sounds weird, more like a wooshing sound than a turbine sound. In fact, I'm not even sure that thing is a turbocharger at all! Maybe it's hamsters running in a cage.
I agree - I think the Sonic with this engine will be much more interesting from a performance standpoint.

I'm thinking of buying the Cruze Eco for the wife, even with the GM discount and the radio package its gonna run $19,250 6.5% financing.
GM is only giving $500 off for the GM discount on these things and no cash rebates are currently offered.
On the Cruze forums people are getting a combined of around 42-44 mpg with the Cruze Eco

WHAT?! The cruze eco 6spd manual with the connectivity was $18,9xx before tax, title. So if you mean $19,2xx out the door, then yes thats good.
Roomies are getting 33mpg city, with fairly flat drive and I think 40-50mpg hwy.

$19,750 w/o GM discount at 6.5% interest rate.
So basically GM discount is only worth $500 on these things, along with no cash rebate incentives.
Sub'd.
BTW, to whoever was asking the Cruze auto is about 3100lbs. I think it's 3102 or 3104, but whatever.
The Sonic is supposedly going to be only 2600lbs so I am EXTREMELY interested in seeing how that actually turns out. With a Sonic 1.4l turbo and depending on what can be done with the auto, otherwise getting a manual, I think it could be a stout little car...especially when you factor in the aftermarket that will be available by the time it comes out (assuming that the engine bay has a decent amount of room like the Cruze has and that the exhaust path isn't too different...either way there should be a good aftermarket available for both by next year).

Yeah, $19, 250 with connectivity package and GM discount at the 6.5% interest rate. I always go by the higher rate, then pleasantly surprised if its lower.

If you go automatic get the 2012 so you get the new gearing, if you go 6spd manual any year is good, but make sure to get the connectivity! Nice car, wish it had more creature comforts but its geared toward economy and it does it nicely.
Yes, yes it is very quiet. I still question whether there is a turbocharger under the hood (even though it is quite visible.) It makes no typical turbocharger noises what so ever. Whisper quiet engine and exhaust. Sometimes I think I stalled the car when it really is actually still running.

You know what? This will decimate all, after, you put about fifteen grand in it or more. If we have to, overnight parts from Japan.

Sorry, I don't follow - are you referring to the Cruze? They only have two engine options - a 1.4L turbo and a 1.8L N/A. It looks like they might put the SIDI 2.4L engine in the Cruze for 2012 model year, but I don't think that has been confirmed.
If you are referring to the 1.8L engine, I don't have any numbers on the tune for that one yet.

I am pleasantly able to lend a few tidbits of info towards the sonic. yes there is room in the engine bay like the cruze. AND very VERY happy to announce that it is a HELLUVA lot more peppy with the cruze. and the 6spd. manual is a great match for the 1.4l turbo. they look hot in black and white. and the hatches start at like 16k for a LT.
I actually just tuned one this evening. Didn't ride in it before tune but when we went out to datalog, the driver immediately noticed a difference. Pulled nicely and when we were at red line you could hear the Turbo. On the way back we turned on eco with cruise button and seemed to give a few more MPG. Can't really tell til you hit the highway
Had good torque too. Was surprised about that part.
Customer was satisfied and I asked if he wanted trifecta to change any thing and he said it felt how he imagined it would.
