AjSS Build Thread

Ok, so I have put off posting up a build thread for a long time, mainly due to the decline in intelligent activity on this site... BUT, I am bored enough now to post up whats been going on and answer any questions or take opinions from everyone.

I pulled my engine in August 2010 to build it. Here is what all is done performance wise (some was done before the build):

Ported Head
-Supertech 78# Valve Springs/Ti Retainers
Cometic Head Gasket
Diamond 9.5:1 CR Forged Pistons
ARP Head Studs
Darton Sleeves
Balance Shaft Delete
Bates Engineering Main Studs
Bates Engineering Billet Oil Pump Gears
Harrop 1320 TVS w/ 80mm Pulley
LS4 Throttle Body
60lb/hr Flowmatched Injectors
NGK BKR7e Plugs
AIS Methenol Injection Kit with 75/25 Mix
RD Fabs 3" Intake Powder Coated Wrinkle Black
ZZP Mid-Length Header Combo w/o Cat
-DEI Titanium Exhaust Wrapped
Hahn 3" Catback
N2MB WOT Box w/ 2-Step and No-Lift Shift
Duel-Pass Endplate
Option B Coolant Tank
OTTP Heat Exchanger
OTTP Stage 2 Billit Rotated Mounts
OTTP Steering Rack Spacers
ZZP Solid Shift Linkage Bracket
Progress Rear Sway Bar
B&M Short Throw Shifter
Falken Azenis RT615's 235/40R18

My buddy and I did all the work ourselves. He went to school for High Performance Engines, and his instructor was cool and let him and I do my build for his final project. That means I got all my machine work done for FREE, and got to do it myself too.

I got the car back up and running December 15th 2010, just in time for cold weather and snow... I currently have just over 1k miles on the build, and 52xxx on the car total. At about 1500mi and some nice weather I will swap the conventional oil out with some full synthetic again, and put on the following:

1000cc Injectors (ID1000's)
2.6" or 2.7" TVS Pulley
ZZP Fuel Pump Rewire
ZZP Boost Reference Fuel System
Exedy Hyper Single Clutch

All I need is the Boost Ref System right now, I have the rest. I also need to order a new Methanol pump, mine crapped out last year. Beyond that, my only other plan for parts right now is a Hahn 3" catback and new custom midpipe to replace the one on my ZZP header to a 3" pipe.

^Edit: Have everything above now.

I have been breaking it in on just 93oct, but when I pulley down I will have the Meth going again, and tune it on that. Then most likely switch to e85 and tune with that, and possibly ditch the meth depending on results. I built the engine so I dont have to worry about my later plans this year. I will be going turbo for sure, but want to see what I can get out of the TVS first.

I also have a set of R1 Concepts Premium Slotted Rotors, Hawk Performance Ceramic Pads, Stainless Steel Brake Lines, Black Powdercoated Front Strut Tower Brace, and Front Subframe Bar all ready to put on this spring.

If you have any questions, let me know, and I will answer them, and I will post pics in a few after I upload them from my phone to Photobucket.

Aj

**Updates: Received new 250psi AIS Methanol pump, Hahn 3' Catback, ZZP BRFPS, and upgraded shift linkage bracket**

**Update 2** A little over 2k miles on the build now, and has Mobil 1 Full Synthetic in it once again. Put on the ZZP shift linkage bracket. Also changed around some plans, going to sell the BRAND NEW 80lb injectors I have [PM if interested...] and go with ID1000's.

**Update 3** Hahn Catback is on with new 3" midpipe, so its now a full 3" straight through exhaust, and amazingly sounds WAY quieter than before, and better overall!

**Update 4** Got my ID1000's today, now I just need time and good weather to swap clutch, then after like 500 miles of break in, I will put everything else on and tune.

Picture Timeline

Ok, I will post up some pics of the process that I uploaded from my phone:

When the engine was first pulled out

Ported head (Intake)

Ported head (Exhaust)

Valves/Springs

Sleeves

After the engine was torn down, got it on the CnC machine to remove stock sleeves

Pressed the sleeves in, then torque plate overnight

Then decked it

Then the fun part

Then put the head on, timed it, ect...

Tranny back on

Brought the car back in

Almost in

Done and home

I have a few short vids of when it was on the CnC, and first startup, and will post them in a few.

Uhh... id have to do some math to figure out how much went in to it total. Quite a bit, stretched over a couple years though. All the machine work was free, which saved a crap load of money.

haha thank you man. I will recommend Ranken to anyone! It's a great school, and a good name to have popping out on your resume

but yeah once I get my balt payed off and buy a new 5.0 mustang like I've told myself I'm doing, I am going to start tearing the balt apart and build it. I know exactly were I am going to for my motor work

Vids

This first one is the first time the CnC touched the block at all, and its 1:09 long, but gets boring after about 30 seconds, lol

These next two are after the sleeves are gone, its just aluminum left to get rid of, and the first one is sideways, im too lazy to fix it.

This last one is the first startup. Unfortunately, I was the one who has a decent camera phone, and I started the car, lol, so after it started I got out and took the vid. Its not very exciting, but it sounded great to hear it run after 4 months, lol.

hey you should go with the mpx 3 inch exhaust. it is 100 bucks or so cheaper, adn plus they fix the issue of rubbing if you have aftermarket springs.
