Cobalt ENGINE Swap
honestly....to make this work you will have to replace pretty much EVERY electrical device in your car. The 2 ECMs are completely different, and will not be able to communicate with the same components (I.E. its not a direct swap). You will need the power steering from an LSJ, the airbad sensors from an LSJ, the gauge cluster from an LSJ, the ABS sensors from an LSJ, and so on. There is no point at swapping engines at all, as it is MUCH cheaper to just buy a new L61 and build it up, or to sell your car and buy a LSJ cobalt. Its probably cheaper to buy a new LNF cobalt even....
so ls just that is what I have seen people go to for swaps...I'm going to a megasquirt just for a turbo upgrade.
Does HP offer it to where you can run stock PCM with full control?
like i said before you best bet is to sell the 2.0 motor, fix the 2.2l with upgraded/aftermarket parts and throw a blower on it. you'll more likely be able to push more than if not about 300+ hp...and use what ever remaining to fund supporting mods (suspension, wheels & tires, tune, etc.)
also this is something that's been done on here and can easily be followed. imho this swap is gonna cost too much in the long run with all the electrical you have to swap and adapt. and all the mechanical parts...

i have a 2006 2.2 Cobalt LT 5 speed standerd 2 door. back in the fall i bought a SS 2.0 supercharged motor all wiring harnesses included ect.. for 1000 bucks from a gm sponcerd racing team, cant go wrong AND which now they use turbo engines so they sold them next to nothing... well today i was driving to work and my 2.2 stock motor decided enough is enough and choked and died.... so i need to kno WHAT i need exactly and WHAT to do to make this swap possible... you can go in full detail about this cause these mechanics ive called dont kno **** all about swaps and how to figure out whats compatible or not... one guy said that the SS model has complete diffrent wire harnesses and that im pretty much fucked trying to get the computer to work... another said the tranny wont fit, then another said it would... so i think i will leave this to you guys, the experts. thanks alot
Do you have any experience with work like this or do you think it's just a simple loop swopp and pull tie your shoes kind of thing? If you don't have a lift, a hoist, all the proper tools and some previous knowledge, this is a VERY VERY expensive project and will take a long looooong time.
nah i understand its a complex thing to do, thats why i posted... but i already got that motor cheap and its 340 hp so i dont wanna rebuild a 2.2 that i drove the **** outta lol, i wanna do something diffrent... and im gonna buy a piece of **** box for a beater, and my buddys got a shop with a full lift hoist and air tools... i just wanna kno what i need for the thing to start and run... i understand the mechanical parts i need.. its just this wire bullshit i dont understand cause im use to like 93 civics and **** LOL@

Buy a 2.2 or use your old one and build it. forged internals, head and valvetrain, crank, etc. Then upgrade axles and clutch. Get injectors and maybe return fuel system. Then turbo it or put a blower on, exhaust, etc. maybe even the m62 from your lsj that you have.
fact is, for less money you can build a 2.2 with turbo and have a reliable setup that runs good and was a lot easier to do than an lsj swap. PS: There is nothing wrong with the 2.2 as an engine, plenty of parts are available and it can make power, just need forced induction.
I dont mean to ruin you plans, you do as you wish and I hope it goes well! But, you will have a lot easier and cheaper project if you just use a 2.2. Good luck and keep us posted on the project!
we need maven or halfcent to make a complete incompatability list. BTW, you can get a 2.2 resleeved and forged for like $2k, and then you'll have a new, running beast. Throw a turbo on there if u want some serious power, or just an M62 (like the one that may or may not have come with your motor you already bought) and you'll be running the exact same numbers

because im prety sure theyre not all interchangeable. The 2.2 and 2.4 one should be, as should the LNF ones, but the LSJ has a different style ECM (PT style?)
he tuned his 2.2 with HTP?
