Cooling

does anyone know of some better AM radiators or good intercoolers that will fit the cobalt?
anyone know the efficiency of any intercoolers as well? or the efficiency of the stock intercooler?

The one in the SS/SC is very good.
A better one is here

Special 2 Pass After Cooler system for Cobalt SS

Special 2 Pass After Cooler, revised coolant recovery system and
plumbing for Cobalt SS Supercharged Stage1-3 GM Performance parts kits.
Get all the power you want from your engine."

"The awesome Ecotec supercharger can really pump more power,
particularly if the small diameter pulleys are installed that turn the
supercharger faster. The issue then becomes, how do you get rid of all
the heat generated? Without a 2 pass aft4ercooler there is no chance the
production after cooler can do the job. As the heat builds up, the
engine protections in the stage 1-3 engine computers protect the motor
by pulling spark and reducing power That's not what you want with your
small diameter supercharger pulleys.

"In addition our racing experience showed that the stock coolant
recovery system is not good enough; the production location of the tiny
recovery bottle can permit air to stay in the after cooler system; as
well the stock system uses a 5 lb cap that can actually 'fall' off.

Our solution is to use either a Ron Davis or Griffin 2 pass after
cooler
, (subject to availability) an aluminum shroud to duct air to the
radiator, and a Saturn Ion coolant recovery bottle with a revised hose
routing, special restrictor and custom split water distribution
manifold. Either Dexcool (for street use) and shown in this race
application, or water with 'water wetter' is installed. Water is the
best coolant for heat transfer but freeze up is a big risk in northern
climates.

I know some of you have looked at our latest post in our vendor forum about cooler IAT's. The Cry02 kit we have can be sprayed on radiators as well to keep them cool. Other things to think about trying is the Water Wetter... thats one of the cheapest/ easiest ways to help maximize your cooling systems efficiency. We use water wetter in our race cars as well as sell it to alot of hot rod guys that do V-8 swaps in 40's cars. Just one thing to think about. Every little bit helps. Not sure how many of you have heard of water wetter but... you want to at least see what it is you can look at it HERE Hope this helps a little bit anyways to your question... I know its not a direct answer to your question but... its somewhat related to the ongoing heat issue.

to Fred: so, the water wetter is just an additive to your coolant to help heat transfer and cooling?
or would it replace the antifreeze completely?
sounds like something i'd use at any rate if it works as well as advertised besides, it never snows here in southern CA

to Doc: thanks for the help. you wouldnt happen to know efficiency %s for either the stock intercooler or the AM model you provided would you?

The water wetter is just an additive that you can add to your cooling system. I think you will really be surprised as to how well it actually helps out. For the cost... its a pretty effective way to help your cooling system. Because of our rules in racing, we are not allowed to use antifreeze, so we use straight water with Water Wetter added to it. Helps us alot in round robin racing when making alot of continues runs in eliminations.

alrighty, thanks fred

EDIT: just had a quick thought...this would also work for water to air cooled intercoolers right? i would imagine it would work the same way

Correct... it will work the same with the water to air intercoolers. If you have any other questions or need help with anything else just let me know... I'll try and take care of you any way I can. Not sure if you have myspace or if you have added us or not but... if you haven't add us!

Water Wetter breaks down the surface tension of water so there is more surface area in contact with the cooling fins, ducts ect.

The best combo is water and water wetter, but you can mix it with antifreeze and get positive results as well.

Water Wetter FTW!! I put it in my heat exchanger and my radiator. I noticed about 5 degress diference in radiator, I'm now running around 178 always. I hope there are differences in the heat exchanger too. I'm geussing their is because today I was running around 18lbs w/ just Stg. 2. It is very cold out, but, I think it's doing its job.

Edit: Water wetter is an advanced performance modification LOL!!
