Eaton SuperCharger Simulator
Eaton SuperCharger Simulator
I was playing around with the simulator on Eaton's Site and was wondering what you experts can make from these graphs:
5th Gen M62:

R900 TVS:

R1320 TVS:

im no expert , but the r1050 looks like best charger for a swap, it seems to give a flat power band from 4-7k about 270hp at 5k 290hp from 5.5k to 6.5k and a spike of 329 frrom6.5 to 7k and a tq band flat across from 4 to 6k of about 280ftlb .
the r900 looks like 2nd best with hp and tq nubers that mirros the r1050 but -20hp (ie.270hp insted of 290)
i used a intercooler Efficiency of 70% and with the a driver ratio of 2.89 wich would just bairly overspin the supercharger, but i figuer with people running 2.5" pulleys on the m62 that it wouldnt be a problem.
the 1320 just looks like too much sc for our engine, they look like some massive power drops , it would be a dyno queen, and most likely destory itself. with that kind of fluxuation in power it would be almost impossabe to tune. the power band seems to flatten out wiht a higher intercooler Efficiency, even stll its spikey, and looks unuseable
and just for shiggles i ran the m90, i know people say it wount fit , but it would intersting to see somone try anyway, it shows a 20hp gain over the m62..
if you want to see 400+hp with a sc , your eather 1:gonna have to overspin the sc like crazy2:whipple or KB:3high comperssion and crazy cooling mods,ie:alc/meth injection or small shot of nitrous and race gas. just to drive the car.
but once again im no pro, i only have my limtied knowlege as motorsports hobbyiest. what ever happend to that guy from eaton that used to post on the fourm ..it would be cool to hear his input.

Eaton and Harrop have actually been working on this. Today I spoke with Ernie (Lead Trainer at Eaton) and the other day Ken (General Manager of Harrop Engineering) posted on another thread. It seems the TVS1320 (HTV1320) is being retrofitted for a conversion w/ our engine. According to Ernie, the non-emmisions 1320 might be available on the eaton site as early as Jan 08'...
The 1050 would be a good fit for stock guys, but I don't think that model will be out anytime soon. The 900 is way too small for our engine. 1320 is the way to go, just look at the compressor maps, the 1320 fits our engine for some great power...

Yes, I believe the simulator has a hard time crunching the numbers, especially when the engine is below the recommended displacement for the blower. Trust me, the 1320 looks like a great fit for anywhere between 275-350 whp. The 350 would be pushing it just like the guys on 2.6 and 2.7 pullies for the M62 now...
300whp is easily attainable with this pump without even coming close to dangerous compared to the people having to dump water/meth injection and play w/ the timing on the M62.
You can try to ask Ken some questions in the other thread, check it out:

The TVS supercharger depending on the unit has a peak efficiency of ~72% and stay relativly efficient all the to 18000+ rpm. The guys at the Eaton booth at SEMA said efficience doesn't drop that much, even at 20000 rpm!!!
They also said I could make close to 600 horse with a 1320!!! Thats over 500 whp!!!

A new thread ... which will hopefully answer some questions.
