Thumbs up jimbos'ss turbo build

well just started my purchasing, i will be installing a g85 tranny, exedy hypersingle clutch/flywheel, new motor(mine blew), cutom fabbing a turbo kit. just ordered a turbonetics t3/t04 hybrid 60 trim with a .63 a/r. i'm having a custom intake manifold fabbed up similar to the hahn one, scrapping the whole air to water setup. allready have all other supporting mods including hptuners.

just wanted to let everyone know

i will be posting up pics along the whole process and provide updates

let me guess....well actually i know this to be true from your post, but i'll just point it out.

you just bought the turbo because some one told you to, or you heard from a friend that it was a good one to use huh?....something along thouse lines....

don't suppose you actually graphed it out......(sigh, you dident bother with PR, flow rates,VE, BSFC, ect did ya)

well, have fun...i take it you like learning the hard way.

at least you dident go to big like most seem to do....the smaller frame and comp wheel will spool even with your choice but your loosing some peek boost / high boost eff%

if you do fallow through the car truly does become a whole new experience, i hope your a dam good tuner with plenty of past experience, along with a vast knowledge of how other turbo cars work, and the principles behind them all....you'll need it to make a solid tune.

actually no i bought that specific turbo, becuause of the small compressor side, i'm hoping for good spool times, i also went with the ceramic ball bearing one. as far as tuning, thats my week spot so far, but i have a good mentor i'm working with. i also have a very good shop that i can turn to if need be. having said all that i welcome all constructive criticism so i can make improvements on my build. i also know you have alot of experience with turbo setups, i would appreciate any help along the way.

i won't have any figures till the intake manifold is fabbed and the cold side piping, expect for the turbo conversion at the very least 3k

What are your HP goals?

If you're not aiming any higher than 350, I think a 60/63 T3/T4 is going to suit you just fine. Happen to have a compressor map handy?

Not a T3/T4...lol!

Honestly, I've only spec'd out turbo's for 350ish, so I haven't looked into any compressor maps for anything bigger. Technically you could just go w/ a higher A/R to make better peak #'s, but that's not the way to do it in my eyes...

don't go off what i'm doing as far as turbos go, ask some of the experts on the sight to help you spec it, i specd mine but i'm no expert. i will definately post pics up of the intake manifold when complete. if i can i'm gonna ask them to produce them for us instead of just oneoffing this one for me.

I'm looking at a 60/64 GT2871R

350, on our engine, should have that compressor right in the 70% efficiency range with plenty of room to avoid surging and a semi-decent spool time...

updates so far, all parts for the build have been ordered, and found a place that makes downturn manifolds for the ecotec motor w/external wastegate. pm me if you want their contact info. tranny is en route, engine should be in shortly as well. turbo, clutch, en route as well.
