ok, we're back on the project :)

sorry, I had to prioritize my finances for the past year. Having a baby girl makes a huge difference........and car hobby becomes the last of my priorities.

Anyways, when BTF was test driving the car on the street last year, the timing chain skipped a tooth or two. So that was a major blow.

We talked about getting a smaller turbo so we can spool faster. Basically replacing my small turbo (gt2871r) with a gt2860r. And we have to pull out the motor so he can inspect the internals if there were any damages due to the timing chain skipping. While the motor was out, he also replaced the k1 rods with Carillo H-beam rods.

We dodged a bullet, and luckily no internal damage found!

Just found out today that My plan of replacing my small turbo (gt2871r) with a smaller turbo (gt2860r) to get a faster spool ....won't work after all.
I thought these gt28 based Garrett turbos share the same size turbine housing, but I guess not .
The gt2860r that I bought won't fit the Tial turbine housing used for my gt2871r.
We'll just stick with my original turbo then.

Motor is all back up. I'm glad nothing was destroyed.
BTF gasket matched the head with the Werks phenolic spacers

Attachment 13558

Stock Intake is being prepped to be matched as well

Attachment 13559

Stock intake manifold was gasket matched and ported clean

Attachment 13560

Secondary injectors already plugged in!

Can't believe I missed this thread being here . Definitely a cool setup for the secondary fuel system from what I've seen. So you ditched the Nx kit for a custom fuel cell ?

yes!

Looks awesome

This is very strange. Can you clarify what turbo p/n's you have and what doesn't fit? I was planning on this combination (Tial + GTX2860R) so I would like to understand if I'll have issues.

Exciting build!

Daniel

You should be fine and have no issues

I believe I bought the units from the skyline motors also called the ultra compact t28

Why did you go back to the stock manifold instead of werks?

We ran it before ....knowing that the ports are bigger than the gasket especially port 4.

We suspect that it caused rough power up top...and also caused slower spool.

Now that the engine is already out, might as well put the stock manifold back

Big thanks to Turbowerx for sending me the Exa-pump (ultra high performance electric scavenging pump for my turbo)
This is the only available spot inside the engine bay

Update: We decided to not use E85 for the secondary fuel system. We will be using VP M1 pure methanol instead.

What are you using for the primary fuel e47?

DI = 93 octane

PI = M1

SKY888 10-30-2015 01:39 PM

On setting B it hits 40psi in about the same time. We just wanna get clean combustion up to 7500 with 40psi. That is the goal, and no small feat here with 2 fuel systems( direct injection and port fuel M1),2 boost control regimes in 2 different controllers.

You can feel with no uncertainty when the large gate opens fully (after LP turbo is lit a little). The increase in Mass flow to the secondary turbine is substantial and the LP pretty much walks around the HP turbo, leaving it at a PR of like 1.2-1.4 pending on RPM. This was what we were hoping for as data shows 8-12 psi positive delta across the engine in some spots.

The only real concern at this point is T2 compressor. At a PR of 3.2 ish discharge temps are in the oven at high rpm since the GT42 is doing the heavy lifting by that point. The timing paint on the compressor of the GT28 is cooked to a different color. Its obviously experiencing significant thermal loads in addition to the mechanical forces acting on it as it approaches max shaft speed below 4krpm.(inferred from MAP,MAF and compressor map) .

Perhaps interstage intercooling would reduce the stress on the HP compressor. I have a leftover AEM meth kit that be could plumb into the LP compressor and tie it to LP pressure. SInce that is pre BOV it will have to be less then 20% alcohol or pure water.

First rip on the street, about 20psi at 3900 and 30psi at 4900.

Way better spool response using the stock manifold :)

I am having a hard time posting videos of the engine start up.....as well as the first run on the steet! If you want to check them out, pls go to my facebook page!

AEM water methanol was re-installed so we can add inter-stage cooling.

the small turbo is currently being cooked as what I stated on the previous post. We will be using pure water to cool off the small turbo with this AEM w/m kit during HIGH BOOST (probably from 25-50psi)
