The short block is sitting in my room. I just need a head gasket, and a some small misc stuff and I can put it all back in. Got a stock stereo, so I took my gauges out. Funny thing is, my $650 Corolla is going to have $1400 worth of gauges

Yeah, these ecotecs really don't like to be built. Whatever. I learned my lesson. I'm saving for an SR20. I'm putting a STOCK SR20 in my corolla, and I'll do a manual boost controller, upgraded intercooler, CAI, and a custom exhaust. Other than that it will be stock. So 2000 lbs with 200 whp. It will be PLENTY fast, and with a stock motor it will be reliable as well.
Oh BTW, the cobalt runs again. Everything is working good, all sensors working, stereo, A/C. Its all working, cleaned it up, and put a really mild tune on it (15 degrees of timing, 6500 rpm rev limit), which at 3/4 throttle is vaporizes the tires. Its definitely running A LOT better than last time, the motor was put together better. It's for sale.

Ok cobalt is gone. My dad traded it in today for a 2008 Corolla with 21,000 miles. I'm so glad that car is gone. Its been a long hard journey, I learned a lot of lessons, and grew from the experience. I'll still cruise these forums, and chat, and probably go to some meets still. I'll still look back and enjoy the first year of owning my car. In the end, the lessons I learned were these.
Cobalt = Decent car, if left stock
Ecotec = **** motor for mods
FWD = The biggest fail in performance car history
NEW cars = Biggest waste of money ever

Cobalt = good moderately quick car, if modded right
Ecotec = if dont correct planning and research will handle alot even in stock form
FWD = the srt4's aren't that much fail.. suspension can be modded and fixed
NEW cars = modding your DD and doing it wrong.. so you blow your engine, huge waste of money

it will help avoid disastrous complications and horrible outcomes.
especially when these arguments are supported by fact and cold hard numbers. all the sales rep's you dealt with, that made claims about what you'd make, were all wrong in the end.
but "we" were not.
hopefully this expensive experience has taught you not only a few things, but also made you a more rounded, less bull-headed person.
i hope you enjoy what ever you do with your next car.

you should add something about the need to listen to people whom are smarter and more experienced then you when planing a build.

I drive hard, and expect a lot from engines. I've had many engines before that stood up to my abuse with no problems, the ecotec is not a performance engine. Also FWD absolutely is fail and a half. SRT-4's are still FWD and no amount of suspension mods will keep it from roasting the front tires with a lot of power. FWD is intended for gas mileage and cheap production, and thats the way it should stay. Yeah I should have listened to people like Brian, I was stupid. Doesn't do any good pointing it out after the fact. Also new cars are a waste of money even if you don't mod them. The instant you drive off the lot, its value drops sharply, and your buried in that car for years. Its just not worth it in my book.

In my opinion, money is only wasted if you get nothing out of it. If a new car puts a smile on your face and improves your driving experience, then are you really wasting money? Each person will have a different opinion. Certainly sucked to see that sitting in your drive way for 2 years though.
Buy that 2008 Corolla off your parents in a couple years and you'll have a nice reliable DD to go with that older-than-you Corolla.

but think what you will .. just because you fucked up doesn't mean ecotecs are fail
